i think that the saying "we use 5% of our brain power" means that our brain is more capable of what we have currently used or are using.. that's what it signifies to me

Sorry but that is a myth! You do use all your brain! You use 100% of your brain just to stand up and walk. Unless your watching X factor about when you only need 1%, less if your on it!

That's a bit mean. I'm an avid X Factor viewer and I can say that I use at least 1.5% of my brain most of the time, haha.

Because we have opposable thumbs with which we can manipulate our environment. :)

Humans actually do use 100% of their brain. This myth that humans use less than 5% or 10% of their brain is just that - a myth. Here is a wikipedia article about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10%25_of_brain_myth If we only use less than 5% of our brain, then that means if I disabled 95% of your brain then you should still be able to function. But that's not true; slight brain damage will result in massive loss of ability (but don't try it lol). Even when you sleep, all parts of your brain are working. The problem with this myth is that if we didn't use most of our brain, why do we have most of our brain? You would think that after millions of years our brains would get smaller (since 95% is not used) so humans could become more efficient. But that isn't the case; we do use all of our brain so that's why we still have it. Otherwise evolution would get rid of it. I don't know how this myth got so popular or widespread, but just because a lot of people say it's true doesn't mean it is.

Yeah! I know where you got that figure from. Tests were conducted on a man who had one of the highest IQ's at the time & the conclusion was that he used only about 4 or 5% of his total brain. Whether this is true of all people or not, we can't really say, but it doesn't take too much intelligence to look around you & see that people are living essentially like animals for all their so-called "intelligence"! People seem to take it for granted that we all evolve "upwards". From what we see today, there's a fair bit of living proof that we've evolved "backwards" in many respects. Or perhaps we should be commended for being so efficient at using our brain that we only need to use 5%? We certainly don't use 100%! Even if we were measured all the days of our lives, there would be some parts of our brain we'd never use, quite possibly just because we didn't know how! What a waste! I certainly don't call that evolution. Maybe de-evolution?

It is a myth that we use just 10% of our brain. Just look it up and you will see thousands of pages dedicated to abolish this myth. We actually use all of our brain but just not at one particular time.
