I am very excited as I have recently become the Channel Manager for the first aid channel at Helium. I encourage Helium users to visit the First Aid Channel as I will be submitting many new titles and spending a lot of time trying to make that channel fun and great!
And if you have not tried Helium, but you like writing articles for online income, and want a site that offers more than just a publishing tool (contests, upfront payments, and more!) Please let me know. I would love to help you get started at Helium, and help you make money there!
Post any questions or comments you might have about Helium, or online article writing in general, because it is exciting for every writer to make some money and gain some noteriety.

How to get upfront payments for someone who just started on Helium? How do you qualify?

You must have one writing star to qualify for upfront payments. The more writing stars you have, the higher an upfront payment you will get.
Any title that has less than 5 articles written to it will give you an upfront payment if you write for it, plus a one dollar bonus if you are the first person to write to a title.
To get a writing star, you need to have 75% (or more) of your articles be rated in the top 25% of the titles. You will have a rating on your my helium page that is a percentage, and as long as this percentage is over 75 you will have at least one writing star.

Wow! That sounds really complicated. Maybe that is why I never really write for Helium. I will try this once I get the inspiration to write again. I bogged down with work right now.

It does sound complicated, but it's really not because on your homepage you will see your stars. As soon as you have one, you can do a search for "empty titles" in categories you like to write about, and when you write to one, you will get $1.50 if you have one star, $2 if you have two stars, and $2.50 for three stars...etc. I have three stars, so if I write just two of these articles a day, I make $150 a month, plus what I earn for page views. Or you can just enter contests and try to win a $50 first prize.

Congratulations on making Channel Manager, I am on Helium myself under the name Gordon D Easingwood (and have worked my way up to five writing stars). I have seen the adverts for Channel manager and wonder exactly what was involved with it? The second question I have is does it generate you any extra income because i image it can be a lot of work?

Congratulations on having 5 stars! I myself have only three :(. There are many articles I need to leapfrog still as I wrote them a few years ago when I had a lot less experience writing online.
There are certain goals you need to meet each month as a channel manager; rating and "grading" 20 articles in your channel per month, writing 5 articles in your channel per month, submitting 5 new titles for your channel per month, and contacting a certain number of writers with feedback. It's fun, and although it doesn't pay, you are able to see all the empty titles in your channel in a glance, which makes it easier to get those upfront payments! I imagine if you were diligent you could increase your earning significantly. So far I have been focussing on the other parts of being a Channel Manager as a "break" from the kind of writing I have been doing for a few months to make extra money.

I write for Demand Studios and Factoidz. The earnings on Factoidz aren't great unless you are fantastic at SEO and promote, promote, promote! Demand Studios is picky, but I'm sure you could handle it no problem. I get paid a flat $15 for every article I write, and once I had a few under my belt I found I could do one in less than an hour. That is pretty good money to make on the internet.

What exactly are the requirements of writing for Helium? Do you need qualified knowledge on specific subjects, or is it just a matter of being a good writer? I've recently gained interest in making money online, but with the growing popularity and competition, I don't know how my chances are.

At Helium, there is no limit to how many people can submit an article to a certain title, for example: How to perform first aid for mild bleeding. The Helium community rates articles of the same title against each other, to produce rankings. The first-ranked article will be shown in search engines above lower ranked articles. Quality writing is very important, and as for knowledge, there are so many titles available, many of which are opinion pieces, that it is possible to write many good quality articles with no research at all, just based on prior knowledge. Good research can increase your rankings, though.
Earnings are per page view, and I earn well even on lower-ranked articles. I find I make far more page view money from Helium than triond or bukisa, because Helium has a good relationship with search engines.
You can also enter contests with high prizes (50 USD for first place) and there are other money making opportunities as well.

Congratulations for becoming the Channel Manager. I don't have any idea about Helium. And also i don't know is I'm good writer or not. Tell me some thing about your channel site. What will do for earning?

You write article that fit titles that are already provided for you. For example, the title may be "How to perform first aid for a burn" and you would then write an article on how to perform first aid for a burn. You earn from page views as you do on other sites, but you can earn upfront payments once your writing achieves a certain rating.

I love to write. I have published a few articles through Triond. Is Helium similar?? I have some that I have written that I have been waiting for the right place to publish them to.That you for posting, look forward to hearing back from you!

Helium is quite different from Triond. I have a few articles on Triond, and I find Helium's earnings better, especially since there are other ways to earn (contests, selling directly to publishers) than just page views.
When publishing articles you have already written, you will need to find a title that your article fits (there's a title search, don't worry) because Helium has titles already, and then you publish your article under a title. You earn more that way because the titles are written by people who know how to get the attention of search engines!
