HI I am so touched by all the prayers and out pouring of concern. i did keep my appointment with the dermatologists assistent. she felt my leg i is infected so she put me on a very strong antibiotic and an antibiotic ointment. I felt ill at dinner but now thats all gone but the nurse did say if I felt that ill in themorning she would send me to the ER. but I have just had my first pill and I am feeling much better now. So we will see how it goes with the ten day treatment of strong antibiotic. I am to go back to her in two weeks. sure hope it will be a lot better maybe even healed by then.i felt so ill at dinner time but Ihad had my first antibiotic dose and by the time I got up here to my room I w as feeling fine again. oh my leg is still sore as we just started the treatment tonight.

ikbooi its still all bumpy but its a lighter pink and does not itch much now but am waiting for areferral to a wound specialist to get this helped and to be told what the heck this bumpy stuff'is and get it finally really healed. the dermatologist said onolyt that its a severe dermatitis which I already knew but what kind of a dermatitis.'i want it healed and the dermatologist shuntedm me off to my primary care doctor to have him send for a referral to a wound specialist instead of him doing it himself so he wasted a weeks time as I had to make an appt. to see my primary care doctor simply to ask him to send for a referral to a wound specialist.so now I am waiting again for a referral to a wound specialist this time and I hope he finally clears this up as its gone on for so long. x

hi johan well my strenght was sure tested on Feb.16th as I had had a bad fall the day before and broke my nose and blacked both my eyes but the worst was my right knee which was badly sprained, 20 days in rehab hospital then home Mar.4 with pain pills so I could bear to walk. I m finally getting much better and only one pain pill now. all that put my rash into perspective. it is also healing but I will have t o see the wound dr next week. I am much better now with my knee.

I'm so glad to hear that you're on the road to recovery, Hatley! I know how scary it can be before you see a doctor over things like this, so I'm happy to know that you've seen the doctor and are now on antibiotics. I'm also on antiobiotic pills and ointment. Talk about coincidence! Seems the two toes of mine next to the big toes have/had ingrown nails and had begun getting infected, so I saw a podiatrist last week who operated on one toe while the other has to wait because it is infected. I've been on the antibiotics since last Thursday and the ointment since last Saturday, when the one toe was operated on. I'm going back in a little over a week to have the other toe done. I'm also happy to know that you don't need any surgical intervention. I've heard of infections like yours having to be lanced because they got so bad so, evidently, you got to the doctor before it got THAT bad. From what I understand about antibiotics, they take 24 hours to really begin working so you should be feeling quite a bit better later today.

hi mentalware five months later a lot has happened I was off line for 20 days from Feb 16 til March 4, I had a bad fall and broke my nose, blacked my eyes and worst of all twisted my right knee so badly I could not walk on it. I had a lot pf physical therapy on it and now I am almost well and just take two pain pills a day for mild pain.So my silly rash was the least of my worries so now I have to reschedule a visit to the wound specialist and to my primary care doctor also. i was due an appt on March 10th but hurt to keep the app then. Now I am better but am using a walker so have to use the lift in the Access bus. the drivers are always so kind and I do appreciate that so much.

I am pleased to hear from you Hatley as you’ve been in my thoughts and prayers. Aren’t antibiotics the moist wonderful medication? I had an infected knee last month which came from a small razor cut and if it wasn’t for a course of strong antibiotics I would have been in real l trouble! I am relieved to hear you are feeling better...

hi paula yes it looks better but the dermatologist did not want to bother with a diabetic aso he shunted me back to my doctor with a note asking him to send for a referral to a wound specialist' a nd of course my doctor did just that as he lambasted the dermatologist for not having speeded up things and sent for the referral to the wou nd doctor himself. so now I am again waiting.I would like this to be over befored Christmas. lol lol.

Hi Hatley, I'm glad the treatment takes efect and you already feel better. Please follow the treatment for how long your doctor says to, don't interrupt it because you feel better. You can't play with those infections, you know? I hope you won't need to be sent to the ER and soon you'll come to tell us you're ok. Get well soon, Hatley!

hi inui five months later March24 I spent from Feb 16 to Mar4 in rehab hospital because I had a bad fall. broke my nose, two black eyes and a twisted riht knee. no other broken bones. but my knee was so bad I could not stand on my right leg. had a lot of physical thearaphy and now I am' able to walk with just a very little painl the rainy days cause some of that with my arthritis too.so I learned that a little rash is nothing comapred to real agony of an injured joint.

Hi Hatley, I am so glad to hear this! I just want you to know that I saw your first discussion and I didn't respond because to be honest, I didn't know what to say. It really didn't sound good at all. I did pray for you and you were in my thoughts. This is just such a relief to hear.

hi sid the stuff is still there but its pink now not red and I am w aiting for a referral from my hmo for a wound specialist that the real dermatologist asked me to ask my doctor to do, which really irritated'nmy pc doctor as the dermatologist is the one who should have send for the referral , he cost me more time by making me go to my p c dodtro to do the referral. now I am waiting for the referal.my leg really does look better and with time perhaps by the time I get the referral it will be almost well. b ut I want to see him and find out just what this stuff really is.so far I have not been given a diagnosis that is r eal.. just severe dermatitis and that much I knew.

Sorry to hear that it is indeed infected. But I'm glad you got in and you are doing well thus far with meds. But do as the nurse said if you don't feel well go to the ER... as infections can be dangerous as you already know for diabetics in their legs and feet. And I know that's a chance I wouldn't want to take either BTW... have you considered chewing them out for not following up on why you didn't get your referral? They should of gotten the notice back return to sender and should of called you to verify info and perhaps fax the referral to the Dr you were being referred to. I dunno that urks me with your diabetes that things can get bad easily. Take care of yourself Hatley!

hi the infection is over now but the dermatologist did not seem to want to deal with me so gave me a note to have my pc doctor send for a referral to a wound specialist, i got the idea he is more into tummy tucks and cosmetic surgery than a diabetic with a rash and he just would not come out and say he did not know what it was. my doctor sent the referral so I should get it soon, then this has to be he end of the line and get me well so I do not have to doctor all the time. lol lol.

I was startled but answered no why and he told me what i wondered about the specialist was suppoosed to have sent for that referral to a wound specialist himself instead of sending me to my pc doctor to h ave him do it.of course my doctor sent off for it at once but I am still waiting for the referral. lol lol

I am so glad to know that you're feeling better after seeing the dermatologist! I hope you continue to get better, too! I guess it helped you to eat something, didn't it? Speaking of antibiotics, I've really had a time with urinary tract infections here lately and I had a time getting adjusted to my antibiotics. There were so many that I had allergic reactions to. I've been better here lately. I still seem to have a painful bladder at times. I'm going to a urologist in Birmingham in a couple of weeks to see why I keep having so many infections. I just hope I can get straightened out.

Hatley dear, I want you to know that I've been watching you!! Ever since your first discussion about this, I've kept an eye on you because I've been really concerned! Please sweetie, take better care of yourself! Being a diabetic makes it all the more important to keep up with what's going on with your body and getting to the doctor as soon as possible when something goes wrong even if it's the emergency room. I hope by now you're feeling a lot better! Sorry I'm a little late in responding but I've been so darned busy lately. Hope you understand. Hugs!!

It is very good that you have got relief from your leg infection. There are some disease which are not curable with our antibiotics. You should take the antibiotics time to time as prescribed by the Doctor to feel more better.
