As received, FYI. Friends, I received this from another group. The information is very helpful and true. Please pass... Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue I will continue to forward this every time it comes around! STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters.... S T R Now it should be S T R T as explained below STROKE IDENTIFICATION: During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this... A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally . He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough. RECOGNIZING A STROKE Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S *Ask the individual to SMILE. T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today.) R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS . If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. Now a new Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue T *Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue ... If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke. A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved. I have done my part. Will you?

Hello Santomarichris, It really grateful reading your text. Especially now, I'm interested in helping and saving people's lives until to the last minute of their lives. Currently the signs I've known before was, the person will be dizzy and can't move his or her extremities. Unfortunately, for what happened to Mrs. Jane, if early diagnosed and recognized, then She'll be with us today. For all the people who are concerned with our colleagues then even a single stoop really matters. My grandfather had already experienced a mild stroke and I asked him about what he felt that time, because when the incident happened I was not there to witness what just happened. He said that he can't breathe properly and he felt dizzy and then there his sight was blocked out. Fortunately my grandmother was there to help him out. For people like my grandfather, and all the people who aged 50 and above, be careful of your health. Be healthy on what we eat everyday. ^_^ and have consultation schedules for early detection if there are any abnormalities occur in your health.^_^

That was a fantastic piece of work my dear friend Santosmarichris! Though I knew about the 'stroke' I sincerely appreciate the way you have presented the whole thing in a simple and effective manner. any body can easily remember the symptoms of stroke STR very easily as the three letters the First three letters of Stroke! Again added T is another interesting feature! While appreciating your sensible and sincere efforts regarding this post, I also want to appreciate this forum, which is not only helping us here to have good time in the form of discussions apart from making money, but also helping other members to learn some useful and useful things which play an important role in our lives. Now at this age of 50 most of friends are also in the same age group and I will try to send this posting of yours to as many as possible for me, so that they will also be educated and informed about this ! Once again , Thanks You Very much for such a nice, sensible and useful piece of discussion!

That's very informative, simple things like those can save a life. I agree that lack of awareness can really cause disaster to anyone, so it is better that we should know those basic diagnosis because we could be able to save some life. It can happen to anyone, our friends, relatives and worst thing is, our loved one. We should be aware to those signs because because who will suffer from stroke is just around.

Another way to remember the signs of a stroke is to remember the word START. S= smile T= talk AR= arm raise T= tongue It is also important to pay attention to other things such as the person's gait when they walk. Do they seem to be dragging one leg? If the person makes a comment about haveing "the worst headache of their entire life" it could also be a sign. Paralysis on one side of the body is one more sign that can set on rapidly. Thank you for bringing the importance of learning how to detect a stroke. Many people die each year simply because they, or those around them, are unaware.

Your post was very informative! Thanks for all the info. I knew some of the symptoms but not about the tongue. STRT is an easy way to remember the signs also. People always say they are okay, whether they are or not, I guess not to cause a scene. With these tips, they can prove if they are okay or not.

Thank you for sharing..very good and simple information. I am a retired paramedic, and another simple test is Equal...cover both eyes with both hands for about 20 seconds..remove hands quickly, eyes should constrict equally (eyes are the windows of the brain) AND ask them to squeeze both of your hands (one in each at the same time) the squeeze should be equal in strength, unilaterally! Not always are stroke victims in the company of others when the incident occurs...these two tests reflect residual damage by the stroke. Often strokes, even tho' minor are followed soon by massive strokes, so it is a good thing to run simple tests if the person reports an incident or you suspect one! Great discussion and Cheers!
