Will we ever see anything bigger than the Internet?

Perhaps, a hundred years or so down the line I think. However, it is hard to imagine what it might be. Still it was hard to really imagine the Internet when it came up, so only time will tell.

A very strange and mysterious topic. Its actually frightening to think of many internets connected to each other. Now I am pulling this too far, but what if we have wireless connections with other planets(if life exists there!!) The possibilities are endless. :)

That could be one obvious avenue. Perhaps we find some life on other worlds. Instead of the World Wide Web, it is the Intergalactic Web, visiting message boards from other planets. Of course, we can only imagine and perhaps we might get a bit right. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Just a passing thought. If such a superconnection occurs and if Mylot exists till that time, then how will the aliens be paid for using this feature? Will paypal start saying: "Accepted in over 190 worlds"?? :) I wish to live to witness this line on their website.

Yeah, I wish that I would live to see the day as well. Of course, you just wonder if their worlds have their own equivalents to PayPal or whatever as well. Would they be offered here now? So many interesting things to think about in this hypothetical situation.

We will obviously see something that is bigger than the internet because everything is improving as the years go on, but how long its going to take to get something bigger is the point. Like you said... it will probably be when we are all gone and our future generations are around to experience it.

Yes, future generators will be looking back out that primitive thing called the Internet. It might be still around, but whatever is in its place, there is a lot of potential. Someone, somewhere will come up with the next big thing. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Just my guess I would say a transport system that makes the airplane obsolete. Thus allowing for any hour to be anywhere in world. Making need to "connect" with others through a virtual world far less enjoyable. Don't see any other way where internet is surpassed by something, other then intelligent Alien life stopping by to say hi.

Tough question. I don't think we'll ever know, though.

How about the car industry for something bigger than the Internet? Think about how the car has changed everything. The shape of cities has totality changed to fit around cars. People have been change by the car, before the car we all live close to over family, only moving a few street away. Now we live scattered across whole countries. The cars is more important to moder life than the Internet, it has and is still shaping the way we live.

You raise an interesting point. The car industry could have some extreme evolution. Perhaps cars that drive themselves safely and smartly for instance. That could be pretty big. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
