I am not really familiar with Gauges for guitar strings though I have been playing guitars for quite some time now and I have always used standard. Well My question is, does it really matter what size your gauge is and does it really affect the sound of your guitar?

It really depends a lot on what type of guitar you are playing. As a general rule an electric will keep its sound no matter what gauge you use, as it can be adjusted if there is any minimal difference. However, it will affect the sound of an acoustic guitar. The heavier strings will yield a fuller sound and the lighter the strings, the lighter the sound. The light gauge strings are great on the fingers though! But you do have to give up some sound quality! Lite strings can sound a little tinty too.
