Hey everyone, this is my first kitten ever, he is very adorable but is giving me trouble. At night when I sleep he always jumps on my face, if I kick him out of the room, he stays at door and meows for me. During the day, he is extremely hyper, he does not meow at all but instead he claws at my couch and constantly tries attacking my parrot. I am also trying to get him trained for the litter box, but I'm not doing to good of a job, any tips are much appreciated with any of these issues.

Hello Fathom :) I want to share some of my experience with you, about the kittens and the cats at all. People say that cats are home lovers, and dogs are people lovers, which means that cats like mostly the home, they live in, and dogs are more friends of the people, who owns them. I understood that by myself. Took a little kitty 2 years ago. It was really scared first day. Only slept on my couch and nothing more. At the second day it felt better, i wanted to play so much with it, but it was lazy. And it always wanted to sleep next to me. I don't know why is that. I couldn't afford cats bed, or something special, just put some old clothes to make it something like bed, but no - it wanted to sleep with me on my bed. This is how it started to sleep on my pillow - so smart, it didn't want to stay on the carpet. When it was little kitty, it loved to sleep near my head. I don't know why, may be that way cats feel more safe. I was so happy - it was always on my hair, looking for some warmness to sleep close. When it grow up a little, i started to buy little toys, balls or so on. But you have to know, that buying toys has no sense if you don't play with your kitten. Its not so much about care, its about attention. If you don't play with your kitty it doesn't need toys at all. My experience showed me that toys are useless if i don't play with my cat. If you care for your kitty - i mean you give it pills and make vaccines on time, everything must be o.k. and i don't see problems for you to take it in your bed. When my kitty was little, i was worried that i can squish it, but it was really o.k. around my body. Cats are sensitive and they hear really good if something is moving around them. That way, they protect themselves. My kitty never had problems with the habits. But i was living in a house and it always wanted to go out. I'll tell you something else, what vets told me about the pets. You need to feed it with good quality food, because male cats, who lives at home, has problems in future with the usual food - i mean if you use granules food. As advice i can give you to feed it with what is possible for you. If it has the habit to eat home made food, something whole your family eat, use that chance. When my cat was little, i didn't know what food to give it. I was buying human tins with fish with tomatoes juice and now my boy is really capricious. Sometimes it doesn't want to eat even Royal Canin, which in my country is the best food for cats.

That, with the attention works really good Now my mom cares about my cat, because i live far from them, and my Shone is really good with her, different. He was really bored when i stayed whole day with the computer. My mom feeds him, sometimes, talk to him a lot, play with him ... And he is very good with her, i mean he listen to her much more, than he did with me. Even if he is grown up cat, he needs attention. I wanted just to say something, what the other guys said, before me - don't forget its a baby. May be he miss his mommy and wants really more attention. Try to work for his habits. That will help you too. You will feel better if your cat listen to you now, or when he grow up :)

Thank you for the informative insight. Let me assure you that I feed him the best food the vet had to offer. I also nurture and love him, I am always playing with him games to stimulate his hunting senses, he loves doing that! I will start paying more attention to him, maybe that will clear things up.

First understand that a kitten is a baby and as such is very active, after 3 or 4 month he'll settle down some. Keep the litter box very clean, if he has done his business other places that must be cleaned up and sprayed with a special deordorizer so the he will form different habits. Most cat's use hte litter box with no problems, if your's is having problems you need to pay strict attention to it's location, can he get to it at all times and to keeping it clean. To have him settle at bed time, play hard with him just before and feed him so that he wants to sleep. Cats are nocturnal animals, meaning they hunt at night and tame cats still retain this urge. With time and kindness he will turn into a wonderful pet. He's not bad, he's just being a kitten. Spray your couch and other things you want him to stay away from with bitter apple. Make sure he has a scratching post instead.

I clean the litter box as often as 3 times per day. He goes to it sometimes, other times he does not want to for some reason. I made sure it is in a place he can get to it easily but at the same time I gave him an area where he can get his privacy. Thank you for the scratching post idea, I will be getting that.

I do agree. Kittens and Puppies needs to adjust for a few months. It is like growing a child.

Acquiring a new kitten is a truly enjoyable experience. Kittens are hungry creatures, and no wonder, as they use up so much energy. You will feel like to have kitten dry food on hand. One brilliant option is ProActive Health Kitten food. Your kitten will likely love this food while getting the nutrients he needs. Kittens love toys. And you will have plenty of fun shopping the toy aisle at your local pet store. Be sure to get plenty of small fuzzy balls and string-type toys. Your cat will want to scratch its front paws against something, but preferably not your nice leather chair. You can purchase a scratching post, and try to start training your kitten to use it right away.

looooool that's not bad at all, for being a kitten that is normal he doesn't know and he wants to play or she, I had one for abt 4-5 monnths now and we trained it to the little box in two days was 8 weeks when we brought it so um yah you just need to take it and show wheres the litter box at the time she wants to poo or pee you will know when it meows for no reason and looks like its looking for something. you just need to show it the way my cat always jumps on my bed when I am sleeping I sometimes play with it or sometimes leave it its not gonna harm you my cat instead sleeps with me or just go out the room since I dont lock my room door when I sleep

We just got our two cats a couple months ago and they are hyper as well. We use the laser pointer to run them around the house for exercise. They like to hop on the table and counter so we've been checking into scat cat...I've heard that works pretty well. Good luck:)

I have had about 4 cats over the years, but right now I only have 1 cat I've had him for almost five years and quite honestly I haven't had much sleep sense getting him. My cat is neutered male and he stays indoors and he's a fairly happy well adjusted cat but he's really wild at night he also meows while I'm asleep and scratches up all my nice furniture. I wish I had some advice for you, but unfortunately even after all my years of having cats I still have no clue on how to make him leave me alone while I sleep, I hope you get some good responses because maybe they'll help me too.

Hi! Glad to meet you! I prefer dogs, but........My boyfriend and I, years ago, found these abandoned kittens. (Previous owner should have been jailed!) A friend decided to take all three! Yea! At first I was worried because they we acting so weird to me. Up until then I only knew adult cats. You are describing a lot of these kittens activities. They got wild when we came to visit as well. It took a year for them to mature. Hope this helps!
