Help! My cat is eating a cobweb!

I don't know whether to laugh or feel sick. Just now, my cat, EB climbed up on my computer desk and stretched up on the wall and ate all the cob webs she could cram into her mouth. I watched in horror, not knowing if i should stop her. She stopped before I could swipe the cob web away, but she swallowed the stuff anyway. I don't know if cobwebs will make my cat sick. Is this normal behavior? Anyway, has your cat ever eaten a cobweb (spider's web) or something else weird?

I never saw any of my cats do this...I grew up with cats...my cats if they walked into a spider web would shake that part of the body trying to get it off but you know how sticky they are I am not sure if it will make your cat sick but it may come back up like a fur ball.

Cool! Thanks for the info. My Big Orange Cat (that's his name) lives outside now and goes under the house and often gets cobwebs on his face and when he comes back indoors for meal time, he brings the cobwebs with him. It must be a pretty dusty spider ridden place under there, cause the other outdoor cats are constantly dredging up some kind of cobweb to play with. I've never seen a cat eat a spider web before today, though. She gobbled up this cobweb with such gusto like it was the best tasting thing on the planet. Obviously, the spider web is made from a natural substance, considering it is from the spider's body. So, it probably won't do any real harm. Still, I was concerned.

Hey you! Nice to talk with you again, too. I read your article over on Bukisa, the one about making money. That was a really amazing article! I was so impressed; very thorough. Very well written. I picked up so many useful tips.

I have not heard of cats eating cobweb. Your cat sound odd. It is good that she is helping you to clear up cobwebs by eating up the cobwebs.

Yes! She is mommy's little helper. Actually, I think that I may have caused this to happen, accidentally. The other day, I was cleaning around in the room where my computer is and was taking down cobwebs. At the time, the room was not so brightly lit (cause the daylight does not come into the windows well at that time of day) and I must have knocked a big chunk of cobweb down to an area and it got stuck on the wall somewhere. Obviously, I didn't see the cobwebs until she started munching on them. Or, i would have cleaned them up. Cats are super fun to be around, but they do weird things sometimes.

Animals do the strangest things sometimes. They can give you a case of the icks. But they don't seem to mind. I'd chalk it up to a memory to share.

hi beautygueen no the cobwebs are mostly just dust and spiderwebs Ihave no idea what is in them but cats seem to like to eat them and never get sick so I would not worry about that. I have seen cats eat veggies and I did not know they did that but think they were good for them so that all that counts. Just do not let a pet dog or cat eat chocolate even if they whimper for it as the stuff init is toxic for animals. not people just pets.

Thanks for that tip about the chocolate. I didn't know that. Sometimes, when I'm drinking chocolate milk, my Big Man cat meows like crazy for a taste. I have never given him any. He's pretty persuasive though. Glad I held out.

I have 4 cats, and they eat spiderwebs all the time. Not to mention other things too lol. They don't get sick, and actually I think it helps clean out their system lol, cause not long afterwards, they end up coughing up a hairball, and from what I was told by my vet, coughing up hairballs is actually good for them. I wouldn't worry too much hun, if you're really worried, then just call your local vet and ask if its harmfull. I would think that as long as they are not coughing up blood or anything like that, that they are perfectly fine.

At least two of my cats love eating various critters that wander in from the outside like grasshoppers and crickets. I don't understand their fascination. Maybe there was a spider in the cobweb and she was really trying to eat that. Cats are lovable but weird little creatures, sometimes.
