I just read from yahoo news that SF authority bans McDonald from selling happy meal toys due to health concerns. Kids just want to have to happy meals just to have the toys. Which I am too is guilty.Last time when they have the glass of Shrek Characters, I also eat that just to avail the glass which later was banned due to the chemical in the drawings of the character. Not that SF took a great courage to ban happy meals, franchise owners are accusing that they took away the happiness out of their meal. I somewhat agree to the franchisers but I think the authority has also a point to that, kids are prone to fatty temptation due to the toys. But I think it is up to the parents to guide their kids in eating the right way. McDonald's toy is not the sole responsible they are just doing their business. Have about you what is your stand? Say yes to banning Happy Meal Toys?

no, because not all kids are after the food for happy meal toys. in fact, they are more excited to the happy meal's toy and not the food. for me it's a good idea to continue to sell happy meal from McDonald's as it gives joy to those kids

They should not rob the happiness from the kids and grown ups as well. I hope they will create a better solution to the health problems.

I did not hear about this, but I think it might be a good idea. That said, I think McD recently tried to do something about making the Happy Meals healthier? Like, now you can get carrots instead of French fries with your meal and stuff like that. So maybe making that mandatory would be a better idea?

I think that this is a very proactive step by SF government. I think people should not be lulled into eating unhygienic food due to such promotions. I think McDonalds needs to look at ways to make it's food hygienic and also ensure that there are no chemicals in the toys and gifts they hand out to kids!!
Cheers!

I don't know they are still voting on that, if the legislators win, it will take effect on Dec.2011.

That's a big NO for me. Granting that there are harmful chemicals that may harm children in those toys. Are there any toy that is not harmful when children put it in their mouths unanttended? Even Non-toxic toys can be harmful cause dirt and bacteria are everywhere! I mean, it goes with great responsibility on the part of the parents. If you are a parent, would you let your 6 months old child play with those toys? It's not what your child want and your chnild cannot want it yet. The children who can appreciate those toys are toddlers who knows how to play with it and would not think it's food, right? I think, instead of banning it, why don't they regulate or create an authority to check on the toys and be able to determine if the manufacturer of the toys are using standard and non-toxic materials. A lable would also do, informing people they must supervise their children. Why should we compromise the joy of every child and child-at-heart to a non-sense reason? Com'on! I wouldn't be able to complete y collection if they'll ban them. I'm a happy meal toys collector myself!

that is absolutely true. Instead of banning it create a group to examine the quality of the toy. Good luck with your collection, you still have a more year. They say that if the banning win the vote it will take effect on Dec. 2011. You have more than a year to collect.

My personal thinking is that we are responsible for our own eating habits. No amount of free, cheap and easy meals will get me to dis way my healthy eating habits. However I do understand that many cannot be like me but to take the toys away because of this fact. Who are they kidding when a grown up takes the child to a fast food place, I do not think it is only because the child wants the toy, get real... It is because of the food the toy is an added bonus.
For franchisers to think now customers will not eat here because we do not have the toys, umm, no they still will... So it can be looked at form both sides but simply one way or the other it just disappoints the child.

yup, a total disappointment, but not only for the kids because like me I also love those toys. In fact I bought a glass from McDonald with Puss N Boots on it.
