Keeping Up with my Thoughts

I have the tendency to speak fast all the time and people have to tell me I have to slow down. It was only a few years ago that I realized why I speak too fast and it's because I think too fast. When i have too many ideas in my mind I just have to blurt it out before another idea pops in and the previous one is forgotten. I'm not sure if this is a sign of mental illness or it simply means that I think too much.

I don't think it's a sign of mental illness or anything like that.

Then what is it? Maybe i was just too young and vigorous my mind couldn't stop having all sorts of ideas. Now i'm not like that anymore. My brain has stopped working.

I have an aunt that speaks too fast and it's almost impossible to understand her. Almost always I have to ask her to repeat herself, sometimes two or three times. I love my aunt, but I don't particularly enjoy having conversation with her because of this problem. It is my opinion that people get tired of having to continually ask a fast talker to repeat themselves and will end up not caring what the fast talker has to say, no matter how interesting that person is. Maybe instead of blurting your ideas out, you should write them down. If writing takes too much time, use a tape recorder.

My aunt doesn't blabber nonsense, she just speaks so fast it's hard to understand what she's saying. When she slows down, what she is saying makes perfect sense.

Well I don't talk as fast as that to be incomprehensible. I usually talk fast with lots of ideas but I don't blabber nonsense. People who can't keep up with me and are not focusing clearly can't understand, but people who listen carefully can. I just don't want to be interrupted while I'm still talking because if I stop, I won't be able to remember my ideas anymore.

I wouldn't worry. This is actually a hallmark of intelligence. People with high IQ's think faster, and talk faster. If you're ever in a room full of people with high IQ's talking, you would not believe how fast the conversation flies back and forth and switches topics.

I think you're right. I do write down my thoughts once in awhile but sometimes I also forget writing them down and I couldn't seem to find them when the right time come. I guess i just have to keep a journal to keep up with my thoughts. Good thing I can type fast too.

Hello toniganzon, Thinking fast is not an illness but talking fast is. hehe. They told you to slow down for them to understand what you have utter. Not all we think need to be blurted. You seems racing with your own mind. Have fun in thinking what you think.

lol! I don't think it is a sign of mental illness, quite the contrary actually! You are probably like a genius and need to give your thoughts somewhere to go. Like start writing or studying something new! I talk (and think) fast also and it has gotten me into lots of trouble over the years!

Thoughts are fleeting, because most of them are so far from profound. I have to write my thoughts down all the time, but when I go back and look at them, I think, "What was I thinking?"
