Hello mylotters.....
Currently i have seagate 250 GB HDD, i am beginning to feel that i require some more space on my hard drive. I want to replace it with atleast 1TB space hard-drive. I also started goggling about the best possible hard drive i could get, and some review websites have come up with some nice reviews about western digital hard drives.
Please suggest me that whether i should go for Western digital or for Seagate or for some other one. I will be really pleased if you could also tell me the model nos.
Thanks......!!

maybe its better you don't replace it, just attach an extra (external) hdd, then you still have your current data/operating system
i recommend an USB/Ethernet External HDD

Hello my friend.....
I recently had bad experience with my portable hard-disk. That was a Toshiba product. I Think that you need to take extra care of portable hard-disk, also it is bit costly. On the other hand if i buy new internal hard-disk, i can replace it with the older one, it will reduce a bit more cost.

Seagate is a better deal , customer experience wise.
Try to buy your HDD online and look for discounts like waltermart or bestbuy or tigerdirect... I dont know if they have online coupons but it would be a swell of savings for you in buying a brand new hard drive.

Hello zurigano.....
I am not from US so i cant buy it from tigerdirect or bestbuy or waltermert. Ebay was the only place i could have bought but i have no discount coupon left with me. Till now Seagate have not created problems, both their customer service and product are of superb quality. I just wanted to change my taste but majority of people are suggesting me to buy Seagate hard-disk only.

You don't say whether it is for a desktop or laptop. As 1TB in 2.5" format are quite rare I will assume it is for a desktop. I also assume it is a SATA drive you are looking for as ATA drives are getting limited now in what you can buy.
The best setup at the moment, in my opinion, is for a relatively small solid state for your C: drive and add regular drives for your data.
A 40 or 60GB solid state drive should be plenty to hold your programs and these drives are way faster than conventional 'spinning disc' drives.
Then buy a 1 or 2 terabyte SATA HDD and also pop in your old Seagate. In a midi tower case you will still have room for another two hard discs.
By the time you have filled up the 1TB drive they will be making 10TB drives! haha
As to the make, Seagate and Western Digital have served me well but then so have Samsung so I don't think there is much in it today. They are all good.

Hello smacksman......
I am also sure that a time will come when 1Tb will be not enough for me. They will also not sell the same product for many years, but currently it will satisfy my requirements. Thanks for the response.....!!

Hello gunjandubey! I have some suggestion for you. In my opinion, you should use HDD of Samsung or Western due to the good quality. You can purchase this: Samsung 2TB SATA 3Gbps Internal Hard Drive (for ~ $90), 7200 rpm, 3Gbps. Have a nice day

The best HDD that I've tried so far is Samsung. HP computers use samsung as their hdd and it's really great. It's better than western digital and way much better than seagate. The quality is so good as well as the after sales service. When my samsung 500gb was flooded, samsung changed a new one immediately without any questions at all in less than 5 minutes. Nothing beats samsung when it comes to this.

I always use seagate. Try considering SDD too. It is faster than HDD.

SSD are too costly my friend. A simple 240 GB SSD would cost around Rs.30-40K.
60GB SSD is now under Rs.5K but in that price point, you can get a 2TB hard drive.
If the main criteria is having more space, then simple hard drives are recommended. If performance is main criteria(and no restriction in budget), then SSD are meant for you.

I highly suggest Seagate because of its high quality. I have a 40gb Seagate hard disk that I think is 8 years old and it still works today. I also have a 1tb external hard disk from Seagate.

I would go for a Samsung spinpointF3 series or for the Western Digital series (The normal or the green versions).
