Hello to everyone (^_^ )
This question just crossed my mind when I drank some water after eating Caldereta for dinner.
I could hear the television on and I remembered that when I was young, I wanted to have my own television. I wanted that then because we only had one television and by the time the shows that I wanted to watch were showing, that's also the time when my father's shows were showing. Since my father has this authority over us when we were young, he would often get to watch his shows while I just have to wait until his shows were over, hoping that I can still get to watch something from my shows. Of course, I would only get to watch the credits by the time I get the chance to change the channel (^_^")
Remembering that, I got to recall other things that I wanted to have but, now that I have grown up, have no interest in them anymore. One can say that my preferences have now changed to my age yet, it somehow amused me to think back at how my thoughts were when I was young.
How about you guys? What were the things that you wanted before and eventually had no interest anymore?

I feel like I wanted a lot of things but I dont recall that many. I remember that I cried over a videogame at the store. You see I seldom ask for things. On the rare occassions that I did, that means I really really really wanted that item.
The trend back then was the first versions of GameBoy. My cousin had the slim version but I didnt want one for myself. I thought I could just borrow hers. I wanted the cheaper version. I mean there was this videogame that had a 4x4 inch screen, only needed 2 AA batteries, and costed P200. The game is programmed into the device so the player can only play one game. If he wants to play another game, he'd have to buy another one that has the preprogrammed game that he wants. I hope that made sense.^_^
Anyway, after Sunday Mass, Mom needed to buy things. While on the store, I saw that they had the game device I wanted. They had the Little Mermaid and Mortal Kombat. I asked my Mom for the Mortal Kombat. I pleaded and pleaded while trying to hold back tears but she would just look back at me with bulging eyes, the way that Moms do to convey "stop". I ultimately gave up since I know she's never going to buy it for me.
Right now, I dont have an interest in having that game anymore. Im happy with the gadgets that I have right now. Though, I still do want a bike. Wanted my own since I was 8 but up to now, they havent given me one. Too bad though that this time, whenever I ask for it, instead of saying the usual "We'll get you a bike, but maybe next Christmas.", they would say "Go ahead and buy one."(as in with my own savings).tsk3

I think I do that to my nephew.. when he wants something while we are out buying necessary things, I'd just tell him that if we still have extra change for what he wants, we'll get back and buy it.
Just look for one that is similar if not identical.
Well, I guess you won't move on with that bike promise that your folks made (^_^")

Thanks.
It wasnt really a fit/tantrum. I was discreet with my pleas. I would just look up at her, and murmur about it while tugging at her hand. She asked me to point which one I wanted. She even looked at the items and inspected it. So naturally, that little kid in me "hoped" she would purchase it. Alas, that hope was just crushed like a puny insect.
I did plan on posting a photo but I dont even know what the game was called. I also dont think it was those Game & Watch handheld devices that you mentioned. The game I remember had that cheap plastic feel and doesnt have a watch/alarm. Maybe it was just one of those knockoffs like the multitude of Brick Game devices common back then.
Wow, at least you got what you wanted when you wanted it. My current wants can be funded by my savings. But that bike is another story: They promised.

TV, I watch less Tv nowadays and I can download some of my favorite Tv shows online and watch them with no commercials. Plus Most Tv shows nowadays are drowning with cliche plots.
Radio-I love music but most music being played in the radio nowadays are crap. So to avoid those overplayed mainstream songs I just play my own playlist. My apartment have no Tv and Radio, I just need a computer, My video game consoles (I use my computer monitor to play PS3) a fridge, an oven and my exercise bike. I am more of a minimalist now. I dont want my apartment to clutter.

I also get to watch less television these days. I do have time on weekends, but I tend to do other things than watch television. I get to watch yes, but not as much as before. I also tend to watch movies either on our player or on the computer.
Radio tends to do that most of the time so I would eventually change the station if ever the song doesn't really goes well with my mood. I use my phone to play music on my way to work and sometimes when I am on my way home.
Indeed, clutter is something that we would really like to avoid these days. We either give away some things we don't use, if not sell them or throw them out.
Thanks for posting (^_^ )

Well, if you get to consider purchasing a television, you might give those flat and thin TVs a try. You an mount them on the wall so that won't consume any space on the floor. Then again, you did say that there is nothing good on television these days and I guess adding that would just contribute to the electric expenses. (-_- )
Indeed, we get to listen to the songs that we really want to listen to and not just the mainstream music that we often get to hear being played in the radio again and again. ( ^_')b

There is just nothign left good to watch in TV if I purchase 1 it will just make my small pathetic apartment room smaller. Having your own playlist is much betetr than the radio for sure.

There are a lot of things I wish I had especially when we are still a child, like those toys you ever wanted or a shoe of somebody that you want your mom to buy for you as well. But there is also one thing that I wish I had in possession before and that is a game boy. I envied my cousin so much since he has one, since my parents can't afford to buy me one, my cousin though was kind enough to lend me at times his stuff. Later in life you put away these childish things.

Thank you for sharing torchablazed
I also wanted to have a GameBoy when I was young. In fact, I think I wanted one when I was in elementary school. It was like always on my wish list of things that I wanted to have every Christmas but sadly, just didn't happen as a gift that I would get on the Holidays.
Later on, when I was already in High School, my concerns didn't include the GameBoy anymore but, when my classmate mentioned that he had a GameBoy Color, one thing went to another and we ended up having a deal. I bought his GameBoy Color for a very cheap price. Later on, another classmate in the same year pawned his GameBoy Advance to me. I did expect him to retrieve his GameBoy Advance but, he simply didn't get it back. Two GameBoys on that year yet, I just realized that when I finally had them, my interest was no longer as strong when I was young. A couple of years went by and our eldest brother gave me a GameBoy Advance SP.
Now, as you mentioned on the last part of your post, we put away these Childish things. I guess my nephews would enjoy them when they get older.. Hopefully, it'll still entertain them. (^_^")

I guess we all wanted that stuff really when we were still young, I remember how I crave to play the Mario Brothers, Rambo, Tetris and other games. Things are different now with kids, at least they can now rent on pc to play for an online game, but no good if not disciplined by parents. Hehe. Anyways, we still keep childish things actually like sometime we crave for ice cream or still up to watch with those anime or animated movies. Haha.
We are just loving that kid within arent we?

Of course, that's party of being young, we aspire and hope for such things and most of them would be things that we really can't get that easily (^_^")
Yeah, kids these days are quite fortunate. The games that we really wanted to play before are no longer amusing for them since the quality of the games these days are too much with details like visuals when it comes to graphics, and realistic sound. Its becoming common to them but, they might be totally shocked when they get to see what 'fun' was before.
Indeed, parents should really be stricter now. With a lot of things that the youth these days can get their hands on, parent's guidance should be at par as well.
Hahaha! Right on the last part, torchablazed

Well, every time we waste money, people consider it a luxury. If people can actually afford it, I guess they are better off. To amuse ourselves, we often have to waste money. To pamper ourselves, we also have to waste money. I guess it really depends on how you look at things.
You sound really content, a room, a table, a computer, and a bed. You are quite satisfied. I guess you have already outgrown those things that you longed for before.

I want a lot of things and then I didn't want it anymore one of them was the playstation a long time ago when it was popular well it still is but before it was just released, I couldn't get the playstation original so I got the playstation 1...Once I got it, I got a few games later on I hated it because it was boring and it went to a waste, lol.

What do you mean by, "I couldn't get the playsation original so I got the playstation 1...?"
What's the difference between that original and the one that you referred to as 1? Just wondering 'cause the playstations that I got to know would be the first one, PlayStation or others would refer as PSX, the one that followed which is the PlayStation 2 or simply PS2, then the recent one, PlayStation 3 or PS3 that should be able to play game titles from the PS2 but, new production line took that feature out.

I wanted to have a dog when I was a kid...but now, knowing all the work and responsibilities are, I do not want to have one anymore. LOL
I wanted to be a lawyer for the longest time, but just before graduating from university, I realized I no longer want to be one. It was like lightning struck and took away my dream. Anyway, these days I do not really "want" anything...I just go with the flow.

Pets...
I did somehow went with that interest but, not really sure for what particular pet I wanted that time. I tried fish but sadly, even though it only had that simple requirement of feeding, I failed to do so. Later on, a friend mentioned that, at first it would take most of our attention but, as time moves on, we'd get more busy and we tend to ignore our responsibilities as pet owners so, if ever one would like to have a pet, it shouldn't be just 'like' but, 'want' (^_^")
A lawyer.. that's a very nice profession. Before graduating, you say? So what did you finish instead?
Thanks for sharing, rinfour
