What age did you put your child in a toddler bed?

My 4 year old just taught my 22 month old how to climb out of her crib today! I am not ready to have her in a toddler bed because I know she will not stay in it and her sleep will probably be disrupted by this. Should I invest in a crib tent instead? I don't want her hurting herself trying to get out, what do you suggest I should do?

I changed my childrens cotbeds into toddler beds when they got to 18 months old as they were getting too big for the cot and it gives them some independence. I did put a bed rail up against the side of the toddler bed so they couldn't fall out of it though. It was hard at first to get them used to staying in their beds, but they slowly got used to it. My wife managed to get them to stay in eventually, they tried to play up abit with it for me.

Thank you. I have a great fear that her older sister will encourage her to be up running around and playing with her instead of sleeping, but rather than her getting hurt trying to climb out I think I must at least try it. Hopefully I can get them to do as they are suppose to and stay in bed instead of playing all night.

I would say to probally try the toddler bed and maybe use a baby monitor to hear if she gets up.If the toddler bed dosent work then maybe I would suggest a crib tent or maybe even a playpen. My son is 15 months old and I am going to be getting him a toddler bed for Christmas and if I cannot get him to stay in in that will be what I am doing.I hope this helped.

Thank you. You'll have to let me know how that goes! I waited til my oldest was almost 3 to get a toddler bed, but she was always content to stay in her crib so it wasn't really an issue. I think I may try to get a toddler bed, the worst thing that could happen is she'd have to go back to the crib. I just worry she would freak putting back into the crib after the freedom of a toddler bed.

I only have one daughter and I hung on to that crib for as long as I could it was when she was about 2 and half when she finally fell out of it that we switched to the toddler bed. I had the same fears only without the playmate. She is three now and stays in bed. I think you just have to try and see what happens. And be ready for the giggling and have to be the firm mom for a bit till they learn to stay in bed and at least whisper. LOL. Good luck I hope she makes the transition smoothly

I bought a toddler bed for my first child for her birthday did up her room nice and girly. I did still keep the cot in her room too. I used to put her in the toddler bed for day time sleeps, it did take awhile of me sitting with her until she was asleep but she eventually went off to sleep on her own. At night time she still went into her cot as I din't want her up running around during the night. It was when ahe was about 16months that she didn't like the cot and kept crying until we put her in the big bed as we called it. My second child is turning 1 next month so I will try the same with him although every child is different so I guess I will find out soon how he goes soon. What did you end up doing buying the toddler bed or the crib tent?
