Our local humane society has been having a lot of problems for quite sometime. Just like everybody else, they are having a lot of financial problems and they just don't have enough space to house any more animals. What's really sad is that they are in a lawsuit now because this one man's dog was brought there back in the spring after he (the dog) had jumped the fence into a neighbor's yard. The humane society euthanized the dog shortly after he was brought there because they claim he was aggressive when they tried to get him out of his crate. The owner went to get the dog the next day and he was very upset because they told him that they had put the dog down and he's suing them now. It looks like to me that they would have just told the people who brought the dog there in the first place that they just didn't have the space for any more dogs. As you can see in the video, the dog is not aggressive at all. I don't know what to make of this because I have known Lane Reno, the humane society's director, for a long time and she has always been nice to me. This first video might upset you, especially if you're an animal lover like I am. Please watch them and tell me what you think. So your saying after a day of being in the Humane Society they put the dog to sleep.. Well to me that is certainly not enough time. I do not care if they were running out of room. But to have a dog that was just picked up and than do that!?! is sicking!!
I decided not to watch the videos I'm really an animal lover and.. not quite sure if I could take watching them. I tear up to too many things and to be discussed and outraged with emotion from one of those places is not what I want to deal with.
Just sad and outrageous they would do that to someone and not wait at least a week for the dog to be claimed.

to me I think I wouldn't trust the humane society. And yes the dog could of been aggressive because of not knowing the people. That's to be expected. But whether the dog was aggressive or not that's still not enough time to give the owner a chance to pick up his dog. Even if the dog bit someone they should have a area to quartine the dog till the owner at least as a chance to say good bye if they choose to have him put down. But jeez...

Yes, that's just what happened! I agree with you. It wasn't enough time for the man to come and claim his dog. This never has happened before that I know of. I remember when my daddy was living, we had a dog that was bad to run away from home a lot and she ended up at the humane society one time. I think it was the next day when daddy went to get her and she was all right. The humane society was under different management back then. I've known the girl who is over the humane society now a long time and she has always been nice to me. I don't know why she would do anything like this. She said that the dog was aggressive. However, he could have been aggressive because he didn't know the people who were handling him or because he was in a different environment. You never know. I just don't know whether to trust the humane society any more or not.

Couldn't see the videos, but regardless of if the dog was agressive or not, every animal shelter is supposed to abide by laws that state how soon they legally obtain "ownership" of a stray animal. If they euthanized this dog prior to that time - which I suspect, if they put him down in a day - they they are at fault. No opportunity was given for the owner to find the animal, and that's wrong. It's an unfortunate thing, but it seems the director there should know her dog laws better.

What happened was, I typed the links wrong. I typed letters for the "0s" when they should have been numbers. I posted this discussion again with the correct links. Anyway, I think you're right about this. I remember when my daddy was living, we had a dog that was bad to run away from home a lot. She ended up at the humane society one time and I think it was the next day when daddy went to pick her up and she was fine. The humane society was under different management at the time. This really gets me because I've known this woman a long time and I've always liked her.

That was a sad news , I infact want to be a volunteer for our local animal welfare society but sad to say that I don't have much time cause I am a regular employee. Spayed and neuter are very important to prevent the skyrocket number of dogs and cats. They should write a petition in local government to help in this problem. As an animal lover, I am not tolerating animal cruelty and I hate people hating animals.

Yes, it is sad news, isn't it? We shouldn't hate anybody, though. We should love everybody but not the way they do. Yes, I agree that it's important to have your dog spayed or neutered but what this is about is a man suing our local humane society because they put his dog to sleep the same day the dog was brought in. They should have given the man more time to come in and claim his dog. It was his neighbor who brought the dog down there and they claim the dog was aggressive. According to the video, the dog wasn't aggressive, though. I don't know the full story, myself. I just know what I read in our local newspaper.

Well they need to talk in serene manner. I don't understand people who often thinks that animals always attack humans, well some maybe but not all. That neighbor is somewhat crazy, they should not take action if they are not the owner of the dog. That should be the one to sue.
