My kitchen and in fact whole house smells divine!! I have a huge pot of pea and ham soup cooking and a parmesan and sun dried tomato loaf baking in the oven, the smells are really lovely and making my mouth water!! However I have mad just SO much soup - I think I must have thought that I was feeding a soup kitchen - there is only hubby and I here for lunch but I could feed an army with what I have made! Think we'll be living of it all week!!! I just love the smell of bread cooking in my house, what is your favourite food smell?

Pumpkin pie baking in the oven may just be my favorite smell although just about anything roasting or baking is enough to get my mouth watering. I adore the smell of coffee brewing. Actually, I read that, if you are trying to sell your house, having the smell of coffee brewing or onions cooking helps to seal the deal and sell that house because they are both extremely "homey" smells. When a house smells like "home" people are more apt to buy. Even though sauerkraut is a very controversial food (you either love it or hate it) and the smell is not something you want hanging around, I LOVE to smell it cooking. The primary reason for that is, most likely, because I love the stuff. My sons always make faces when they come over for Christmas dinner and they smell the sauerkraut cooking... not good, yummy faces, either. I just poo-poo them and tell them they don't have to eat it which, of course, leaves more for me! Anyway, your discussion here has inspired me to do some baking. My husband has been leaving little hints around that he would like me to bake a pumpkin pie. I just sighed this morning and said to myself, "Well, okay, I'll make a pie today." Now, your yummy discussion has inspired me to make that pie with a smile and possibly even make some soup or beef stew as well. I usually make all kinds of breads, cookies and candies for Christmas (give them as gifts) because the weather is cold so it not only warms up the house nicely but makes it smell soooooooooooooo good. Now, you need to give us all your address so we can come over and help you with that soup!

I only wish you could all come and help me get rid of it!! I have to admit to have only ever made pumpkin pie once, but I did enjoy it,I guess its more an American product than English. In fact up to very recently the majority of English people only ever used pumpkins when making Jack O Lanterns, for Halloween - most people actually just threw away the flesh they scooped out! I think TV programmes and the likes have made us all a lot more cosmopolitan now when it comes to cooking and pumpkin is used a lot more - but mainly in a savoury way. I am trying to get up the enthusiasm to make my chicken and mushroom pie fr dinner. I've made the filling I just need to make the pastry and th pie, the computer keeps calling me I'm afraid!!

That's my problem exactly! What really is what I consider to be the easiest part of making a pie is the hardest to get to. My computer keeps calling me, too! That chicken and mushroom pie sounds delicious!!! I'll make the crust! My mother used to tell me that I made the best pie crust she ever tasted, so light and flaky. What I didn't think of until much later was, is she telling me this in order to get me to make more pies or does she really think I make the best pie crust? My conclusion was that she was just trying to get me to make more pies.

I'm sure that is was because you DID make te best pie crust!! my pie is now made and sat in the oven ready for me to turn it on later,I'm such a good girl!!

Hiya chem, Wish I lived near to your House then I love that Soup and that Bread. Actually that kind of Bread I would only be able to get it a big City say like Barcelona or Madrid. That does not exist unless you make it yourself. Not having a good oven I don´t so when I go down to the Supermarket here I make do with "tasting" the aroma of fresh Bread that comes out of their Oven there. They only make ordinary Bread and Cakes and a couple of other Pies but they smell really nice when they have just been made. I love the smell of Pizza all the time. Even if I was´nt hungry if I had one at hand I would be eating some of it (grin).

Hiya chem, That is the trouble too sometimes there is way too much Sugar in that kind of Bread in the Sliced stuff they make here. Now some of them are putting on the side of the Packet what and how much goes into the Bread. Same with the Cakes too they are far too Sweet sometimes. Nothing like Fruit and Nut Cake from before eh?

I do love the fresh bread that you get in Spain, it is really good. You don't have a lot of the sliced bread though like we have in the UK do you, from what I remember most of it was a little on the sweet side.

I do not care for sun dried tomatoes, but the soup sounds absolutely wonderful. I love soup when it is cold outside and I may make some tomorrow. I am not sure of what kind it will be but I think any would be good.

Well, actually you inspired the cook in me to make a wonderful dinner. Simek's Italian meatballs with a quick soup and sour cream sauce with muchrooms over egg noddles with sweet corn. Thank you, hubby happy!

I like the smell of chilli cooking in the house. The combination of garlic & onion cooking in particular. Which reminds me of an odd occurrence. I had worn old clothes, I had cooked enough chilli to freeze & put aside for work. I noticed that these did not smell of cooking at all: but the jacket that I wore later to work, did.

And I bet the smell left you wanting the chilli alnight!! I think that the smell of onions (and garlic) is divine, so appetizing. I sometimes make hot dogs for school fairs etc- if they're not selling I waft the onion smells about!!

Oh I love the smell of bread cooking as well as cookies, pies, especially apple pie! I just love the smell of cinnamon! Today my house smells like yeast rolls and chicken alfredo. It was a good supper! Now I am stuffed and dreading the dishes!

Well, you could put some in the freezer and use it later. And yes there is nothing like the smell of fresh baked bread. My mother still makes home made bread and rolls from time to time and it is a heavenly smell. Find a container or two and freeze the pea soup....or invite a few friends or neighbors over....surprise them and leave it on the step for their supper. I only wish I was your neighbor....where do you live....anywhere close to New Brunswick, Canada?
@oldchem1 (8132)

Afraid not - Lancaster UK !!!! A little TOO far I think!! I have frozen a batch of the soup - it will do a lunch over the next week or too when I am feeling lazy!!

Oh yummy! You always make me so hungry, however I did just eat this time!! I love the smell of fresh baked bread. It has been a long time since I have made some bread, maybe that will be my project tomorrow. I also love split pea soup...which is my favorite. I made some lentil soup with ham today and I just got finished with a big hot bowl of it. I didn't have any fresh bread to go with it. :-(

Now if you had only said! There is still some of my bread left - and (if I say so myself) it is VERY good!!

Hi, I am doing my cooking everyday and I love the smell of stew chicken or pork. Normally, I like to to stew chicken /pork using my slow cooker. It is more simple and I just need to get the ingredients ready and put all into the slow cooker pot and set the timing. After 2-3 hours, the smell from the slow cooker is so good and I just can't wait to try it out.

Hi I love my slow cooker too and use it most days. There is nothing nicer than coming in and being greeted by the smell of a lovely meal cooking!!

That's a hard choice to make. I would have to agree that the smell of bread baking is definately up there! But I also love the smell of homemade spaghetti sauce slowly simmering on the stove, coffee brewing, and anything citrus in the air....
