Do you think a personal website will work?

I was planning to create a website about my course, accounting. It's not a popular course and I think my efforts would be wasted because even if there are a fair population of students taking this course, I don't think they'll use the internet as a study resource.
My plan is to create a sort of "lesson" and "quiz" where they study a particular subject and check what they've learned from the quiz. I am halfway on finishing one subject and hopefully it will be useful to those interested in learning the course.
I haven't published it yet in the internet because I haven't finished the whole site.
What do you think? Will it work out or will it flunk and disappoint me?

Simple, be a business man. Don't be just an accounting. OR Just be yourself you wanna be. Your accounting knowledge is your products that you gonna selling in the internet.
Your customers? Can you count your fingers on billions of internet users around the world and maybe on far, far away galaxy? Well your an accounting student start counting now.
Just start on simple don't be so complicated. There is power on simplicity.
The world all time richest man, Warren Buffet. Who started as young boy selling Lemonade Juice. He said "The best way to sell or make your business more profitable is to put them nearer to your customers. Where your customers can easily notice or known what are you selling or whatever business you have". So that's why on selling or in any commercial businesses we need to promote or the science of telling to the people what they wanted and needed from you, are what you are going to sell or your service to them.

I made the site very simple because I get lost in the site easily. I think I'll use social networking sites to promote the site because I have tons of friends from accounting, besides from my classmates, I've also made friends from other year and sections in the course.
I'm not good at selling though nor promoting but I'm determined and optimistic about this project.
Thank you for the inspiration. I love lemonade ^_^

That's also a good way to promote a site. I'm sure there wouldn't be students who'll use the site at first but in time there'll soon be greater chances that it'll be known.
Thank you for suggesting resources on how to market a site. The internet is really wonderful. Not only in providing informations but also connecting people to communicate about these problems. I believe that a person is better than a book since people can answer your questions directly and precisely. Thanks again :D

Wow! What an idea...
Just go for it man! Even I have such plans. If you want, you can checkout a good LMS- Learning Management System- a CMS made especially to create a tutorial or educational site. One of the very good LMS's that I've found over the years is Moodle. Go to moodle.org to download this LMS (it is opensource and completely free with innumerous extensions to make it strong n wide..a university kind of website). You can create lessons, (text, audio or video), quizzes, chatrooms n forums for different subjects, tests, wikis, certificates and so much more..All this is so easy and setup..Try moodle once.... :) All the best.. !!

Thanks for the suggestion!! This is great, maybe I'll learn alot how to make the site more accessible, useful and organized. Thank you so much! And thanks for the support also. Although I think I have to be a real professional and that I have to pay moodle. But I'll search for something for free that serves like this.
Also, you've given the important term..LMS so I can search for it much easier. Thanks bunch!

Well, if you never try, you'll never know. Personally, I think your idea is great! Books are endless and they contain too much words and it's too heavy to bring along. Whereas, using the internet is more convenient, as we all know. Plus your ideas include a quiz, which is very good, as it can test students' understanding immediately. At least there is some sort of lesson and you can even make it animated! Good idea, friend!

That's a cool idea!! I love using photoshop and I think I can make some images animate.Thank you for sharing. I agree that today's era, internet is more convenient than a book. I also love the idea of making quizzes so that they can gauge themselves. Thanks again!

Well, I suppose so. But at least I made it more comfortable. Plus, they could use CTRL+F to find exactly what they need. I also use several sources and made quizzes from the lesson. These would be ten folds more useful ^_^ hehe

If you share ideas and it sound more of a tutorial, then go on, you have nothing to lose because if your motive to put up that site is for others to learn, then that is good because you are not selfish to share your ideas to others.
I do like sites that offers lessons and tutorials. It is really a good way to lend a hand. Just go on with that idea and hope that you can finish it in no time. Happy Mylotting!

Thank you! I also love to help others and share my resources. It's because I got books from my parents and even from Valix (a CPA author of acct. resources) and I'm so happy to gain different resources. I also go to the library alot so I find it nice to make way for others to see these resources.

I have tried to build and maintain many websites in the past and they can be frustrating because you need to find a constant and regular audience which means you have to make the content second to none. Take my word for it when I say not to expect it to be a roaring success, but if it is something you really want to do then go for it and learn what your audience need and require as you go along.

Thanks for suggesting. I guess I should also prepare myself from hearing what people would need from this. I'd like to show what I made. But I want to complete it before I get to publish it because that would mean I have to delete the file in the site to add some additional content. That would be a bit frustrating because that means I'll have to wait until the whole content is uploaded.
Thanks again!

why not, if you can create a good one. i think your web will be good, just upload your subject matter that's you give to your student.
and they will often check your site, if i can give you a suggestion create a member to your site, that's for your student.

as many have said, i think this is a great idea as well. i teach some students privately and although i don't tutor them on accounting as i myself have never done that subject, but having a site based on different subjects is definitely helpful to the students.
even i myself, when i had trouble recently trying to teach science to an older pupil as i had not taught that for very long, i had to search on the internet to freshen up my memory and the different learning sites were so helpful and easy to understand.
i could understand so much more easily those topics which i had so much trouble understanding back then. of course, you must be able to explain in very simple terms so that the students or people can understand. and i find your idea of a lesson or quiz fantastic.
of course, if you're doing it for commercial purposes, i think it might take some time but as it's for a study resource, i think it's perfect. if you can do it, then go right ahead. it will help so many people.

I don't know, if you think it will work, it might work. For me, that might not interest me a lot, because I am no longer a student, and even I am a student, unless you provide me some problem solving answers, or I won't check it out at all. Maybe I am wrong.

i think that many people do actually turn to the internet for information. i thinmk that this is a pretty good idea, once completed of course. Also it would be wise to lt many people know about it, the more that know the more people you will get viewing your site. Word of mouth is a powerful tool, get people knowing now, especially if your close to finishing everything.

Are you still in school or have graduated from the school ?you have to spend a long time on the website construction ,even beyond your estimate .
my roommate were engaged to make a forum ,and he was likely addicted to it ,he began to cut class just for his forum .An week later ,he had to give his forum to one of his friend then comeback to his class .
It is a big target to create a website like you said ,if you can do it successfully ,this exprience will be a big asset in your future developement .

Well...
I work as a web developer and have created some personal website for other person's of our college like proffesser and my old music teacher ...but when ever I think to creat my own ...I start wondering what I will keep there as I haven't done too much in my life yet which can fulfill a good website whether it's personal or public profile..
But I am sure when I will feel strong for it and I will get enough content for that ... I will create by sure ...
