As many people here know, my husband has been going through a lot of medical problems this year. It started out with kidney stones and two surgeries to treat that. Following that, he's been having a lot of pain and we've been through an MRI and several doctor's visits. It is starting to look like things are pointing in the direction of RA? I was wondering if there are any mylotters who have experience with RA. If this is the diagnosis that he ends up with, what kind of treatment should we expect? Will it help him get a handle on the pain that he has been experiencing?

Way back in the day, I was told I had RA. That is before they had the Blood work where they could check everything and see if it lead to RA. But then came other issues as I got older, and I knew it was way more than RA even before the Blood work was done, and then for a couple yrs. after, and never knew what it was. For me it took having severe chest pains which they thought was my heart to where I found it was actually Fibromyalga causing all the problems. But this is an older discussion and I am sure he has found out what is bothering him and doing the Best he can to keep things under control.

Well, actually they haven't been able to make a final diagnosis with what is causing him the pain that he still experiences. However, they are able to give him some medications that do help with the pain. You see, with the lymphoma it makes it difficult to tell if he has any other autoimmune diseases as well because lymphoma throws off several of the same blood levels as other autoimmune disorders will impact.

Dear dorannmwin, If this is RA, it happens to early to your husband. My mum is also diagnosed with RA and she is 50. Whatever it is, hope that he will recover with medications and consultations.

It does seem like he is young to be facing this kind of a diagnosis. However, he does say that his grandfather on his biological father's side suffered from RA according to his mom. He has never met his biological father or anyone from that side of the family.

so sorry. this is quite serious if thats what it is. anyway, ive heard they have some really good meds these days, except some people cant take it but on the bright side as bad and hard as it is to force yourself to excercise, it must be done. i recently read an article by a woman that hurt so bad she couldnt hardly get up in the morning, (this is me also)and she started going to the Y for excercise classes devoted toward RA. which has made her so much better. i also notice when i force myself to do more it helps the pain. that and at least 1 excedrene a day

I am so sorry to hear this as I have been told that it can be very painful. However once he has been diagnosed then there is treatment available that will keep it under control. Have you thought about going online and seeing if there are any natural foods or vitamins that may be of use to him? The natural things may take longer to work but the side effects of medication. Once you know what you are dealing with you will feel much better and can take action.Good luck and many blessings

I do know that the things that he has been dealing with have been quite painful to him. However, it really does make me happy to know that there is finally a doctor that is willing to work with him to get to the bottom of things.

I am so sorry to hear this. I really don't know much about RA. I have seen specialists for this when I have been in the professional buildings to see my doctors. I guess I would go to reputable websites and just read up on it. I think with everything medical these days, they are always coming up with new meds, and treatments and stuff like that. I am sorry I know nothing about this, but I can offer my prayers for your husband.

Your prayers are more than welcomed because I really do believe in the power of prayer. That said, I think that we are on the right track finally.

as odd as it may sound, you might want to check with your local library and get books out on arthritis. i am waiting on a book called 300 things to make your life easier when living with arthritis (something like that).

At this point in time, there is nothing at all that sounds odd to me. It has been a long road that we've already been down, and I would do anything in my power to help make things easier for him now.

hi dorannmwin yes if its RA there are doctors specializing in that and I would surely see one. There are so many new break through medicatiobs for RA suffers while us OA's they have not advanced nearly as well.my OA can be so painful but they are bringing in new medications for RA all the time. I have OA osteo arthritis but its not too bad any more as I take tramadol twice a day and am pain free for the most part.Oddly they do not bring in many new OA medications. we also hurt. But of course there will be new medications eventually. Also they have physcial therapy for RA victims and they claim it really does help a lot.Your family doctor will probably send you to a RA specialist for help for the RA. nc [em

You are right and his new primary care physician is working on getting him in with a rheumatologist, so I think that we are finally on the right road to getting him to feel more like himself. In the mean time they have him on muscle relaxers and Darvocet to see how much that is able to help him.

Is this an arthritis ? If that is what it is do your job, look it up on the Internet. Many people have this and there are many ways to treat it no matter which type you have. First you will need a Dr who specializes in this. Don't mess with a GP. I have one who treats me, so far I won't take any of the Meds, the side affects are to bad. I use diet, exercise and try to learn anything I can about alternative treatments. Good Luck to you.

It is a type of arthritis. Right now, his general doctor is working hand in hand with a local rheumatologist and my husband will get to visit the rheumatologist soon. I just want him to start to feel better because it has been very hard on him and difficult for me to deal with as well.
