A friend asked me how to darken her skin and i wanna start a discussion so i used her inquiry. she wants to darken her skin cuz she's going to audition to an agency and the requirements includes a moderately dark skin and height. she is already tall but she has a bright complexion. i was wondering if any of you know how to darken skin? she is allergic to those sprays you can buy in stores, by the way and sunbathing isnt an option either. i forgot the reason why. thanks for the response.

I don't know how much time she has for the audition, but the natural herb St John's Wort, which is safe for most people (she should research it because I don't remember if there are any people who shouldn't take it) can give your skin a tan look. I was taking it as a natural antidepressant, and in less than two weeks (in the middle of winter!) I looked like I had a nice, even tan (and I am usually very, very pale)

I told her about herbs but i took a shot there. I didn't know there was any kind that can make your skin darker.

I believe that any natural methods of darkening the skin would be too streaky and unrealistic looking. If she has that many problems with teh dyes etc. and can't sunbathe, then perhaps she should apply to an agency that will accept her as she is. Trying to be something you are not for a job is never a good thing.

Skin products have to be labeled. Tell her to use a toner that says hypoallergenic AND developed by dermatologists. There are many in the market. Although they are more expensive than others, they are worth it if you have skin problems. Eucerin, Neutrogen are some of the names. Check them.

She can use spray tans, but if she is allergic to the ones available in stores, she can also use a tanning foam, mousse or lotion. She should try a patch test on various brands of fake tan on the inside of her wrist. Maybe she will find one that doesn't cause an allergic reaction. If all else fails, she can always use foundation that's a shade darker than her skin, but be careful about this. If you use a cheap, low-quality brand, then the foundation will more than likely 'streak' and will result in a streaky, messy face. We don't want that, right? If she doesn't want to fork out a lot of money on a decent quality foundation (because she will probably never use it again after the audition, anyway), then I suggest she use a bronzer. Also, a lot of moisturisers for face these days contain the tiniest bit of fake tan to give the face a 'glow' and make it look sun-kissed. These ones are gentler on the skin and do not cause irritation that a spray tan might cause.

Thanks for the detailed response. I'd have to print this one up. :)
