My significant other has type 2 diabetes. The medicine is very expensive but what is worse is the machine and strips to regulate his blood sugar is ridiulous. It cost for 100 strips $52.00 which I think is crazy. Its just like people with asthma their medications are outrageous too. Its just goes back to if you have money you can afford to take good care of yourself if you don't then you eventually die a show death. So not fair to so many people in the world today. What a shame that this is the world we live in today and people don't want a better health plan. I don't understand that at all.

Hi Lelin. You hit the nail right on the head money rules and if you don't have it then no one could give a hoot about what happens to those that don't have. I know what you mean my brother in law has diabetes too and he can't afford those strips either too expensive. I looked online to see if I could find any cheaper but to no avail. Quit looking cause I couldn't get him to write down what he needed. But there are sites with all kinds of strips for those diabetes testers. There are some medicines that say they will help you if you can't afford them. My mother had diabetes too but she had a lot of help with her medicine she lived next door to my sister which helped her. I can't believe this world money rules and if you don't have it you are out of luck.

Its a real shame that, thats what its come down too. How can these companies that supply the medicine sleep at night knowing they are committing murder each and everyday by not letting the medicine sale at a cheaper price so everyone can afford it not just the rich.

I totally know what you mean and I feel for you. I was just recently diagnosed with type 2. Not only do I have the hospital bills, now I have to test my blood 4 times a day and I have to take insulin. That part isn't expensive. It is like you said, the strips cost an arm and a leg. It is almost impossible to keep up with. Especially these days where not many of us have money.

Exactly! I'm so sorry that you have it too. Its so hard to deal with. There is so little you can do when it comes to the medicine. Then when you are trying to find the right foods to eat they to are so expensive. Anything sugar free is more money. Why? Its less one ingredient. I will never understand that.

My son n law was in a traffic accident 6 years ago,A semi truck drove into the side of his pick up as he was driving down the road, broke his leg and he has pins and in constant pain, on morphine, etc., my daughter was telling me yesterday that they have to use ALL of his disability SS check to pay for the prescriptions. I thought when you were not at fault like this that the insurance of yours or the other especially at fault, had to pay ALL your medical expenses! But the insurance company put them on a spend down and, get this, told her that THEY (my sonnlaw) owes them (the insurance) $$$$, she told them that she has these bills to turn in and they want her to turn them in first before they will tell her HOW MUCH she owes them! So I don't understand this at all! What I do know is this is MICHIGAN and Mi has NO FAULT car insurance, meaning that WHOEVER is at fault YOUR insurance pays every thing...I also happen to know that this doesn't matter if you are out of state when an accident happens, first hand experience, but that everything goes back to your car insurance AFTER your health insurance. The moral of our story....if your state ever tries to vote on going to NO FAULT car insurance VOTE NO!!!!

That is terrible and this is why I can't stand insurance companies. Most are all ripoff con artist as I see it. I don't live in the states but I have plenty of family that do. I will let them know about this.

It is very sad that things have come to this point. I have a friend that has diabetes & couldn't afford to buy enough strips to check herself like she should. There should be allowances for people who can't afford medical supplies that they need especially when there are so many people drawing all the easy money that are perfectly able to work but don't.

Getting sick is expensive, whatever the disease is. Some people die from shock just by recieving their bill. When my mother, a senior citizen, was hospitalized for flu, we still managed to rack up quite a bill. That's why I am really careful with my health because the way things are, I might just die from the bill.

Yes the bill alone could cause a heart attack. Thanks for your response and I hope you have good health always.

i know!! i want a better health care too but so many people are against it.. i was recently told to buy the monitor and etc because something fishy was going on with my blood sugar and i was lucky enough to get it for free but omg you use the strips so often that i doubt 100 will last long at all!!
i have so many health issues already (including asthma) that im really hoping i dont get stuck with using the strips and all since now its 80/20 on the cost which is great but when you take over 8 other meds daily its just not affordable to me

I remember telling you about the Liberty commercials for diabetes but I don't think that would work here in Puerto Rico I will have to check it out. I can't even use printed coupons from the internet at Walmart or most other stores. Where in New Mexico I was able to use them at the stores including Walmart.

Yeah I know where your coming from. Lesson learned I guess we all should take care of ourselves. Health promotion and Health prevention is the key... I know it's hard but we all have to think of the positive effects in the long run. I wish everyone a good health and bless your family.
