Each time when I look at the senior citizen especially when they are unhealthy, I started to have feeling inside of me saying that " I don't want to live along life like that!". I will respect all the old age people since tney have done their job and to the society when they were young. They deserve a good place to live and enjoy a happy family when they grow old. But in reality, it is not a norm in thisour world and the younger generation tends to stay away from aging more and more everyday because they think that the aging group are just too out dated and will never understand the younger generation. In my city , there are lots of old age people they have no children or their children have already abndon their parents for all kinds of reasons. Many elderly are living under the poverty line and still hav to work like a dog in their 70's and 80's in oreder to survive. Some would jsut go to pick up some boxes everyday and re-sell it to those recycle merchants to get 8-10 dollars per day to buy food for themselves. They still have to work even when they are sick. That's why I have a feeling that if anyone who wants to live a long life?" like that",No, thanks. What's your opinion , share with us?

wildlittlefae I am a senior citizen and I c arry a quad cane and so the heck what. I am loving life and want to live a few more years myself. I do not feel that I look so horrible young people will cringe. I am mistook for a much younger person. I am not senile and a, pretty damned intelligent. I resent the idea that you young people have that first anyone over forty is o p o l l l d d d. they are not. I am old at 84 but call myself a senior citizen not old.Yes I want to live a long long life as I want to write a book yet and get it sold.We have a heck of a lot more brain power than you kids think and its time to be a lot kinder to older people as like it or not one day you too will be old.

Well, first of all. Don't get me wrong, I fully respect the senior citizen and treasure the fellowship with them all.I know that they have done a lot of good things to the human world in the past and all seniors citizens should be honored for their good work.I know that I and many others who are in younger age will someday be old as well. I post this discussion just want to see how others may think and I also share some of my feeling about getting old. I totally agree with the experience that the older people have and their experience will always be a helpful information to our younger generation. I hope that more senior citizens can share about their experience of life to enrich the younger generation in terms of life experience. I think no matter what age we are in at the moment,we need to learn how to communicate with our different ages friends. Thanks for your response and I hope that you have a merry Christmas.

Live long and happy. If not, what for then. Life is not a matter of length, it is a matter of value. What we have done in our life, that's more important. Everybody might desire of that, but I'm not on that boat. For me, live short or long is OK, as long as I can give benefit to others. That's what give a meaning to my life.

i don't. i guess we have the same opinion about it. even when i was younger, i never wanted to grow old. but as i'm getting older, i learn that there are things to consider too. like what if one day, i have my own kids already and suddenly i would die? what would happen to them? so along that line of thinking, i would think that it's better to die hen you don't have your own family yet. that way, you don't have anyone else to think about when you die. but then again, if that's what happens, you don't even experience having your own family, being responsible for someone else. so you go back to wanting a long, meaningful life. when i think about it though, i go back to thinking the way you just said. anyway, these days, i just don't think about it. it kinda gives me a headache trying to figure it out. i guess whatever happens will happen no matter how much i try to think about it. :)

nicely said. i cannot imagine or the life of me how you made a sensible comment to me while my post is much more of a babble. anyway, i guess we just have to listen to that old song que sera, sera... whatever will be, will be, the future's not ours to see... right? oh, i really liked that hymn that you mentioned. would you mind telling me what the title is? is it some sort of christian song?

Thank you for telling me the pros and cons of both side and also the struggle of thinking in the process. I think it is true in some sense that we just cannot figure it out things we have no control with. Life is a gift from God according to the Bible and everything is just a grace. We might not like things happen in the opposite way as we want but somehow that's life. I think it is better to let God guild our way and do our best to the same time. There are times I think that since heaven is so good and it is better to go up there as soon as possible rather than facing all the suffering in the world. But on the other hand, I think God wants us to stay here to finish our task and the plan He has already put in our life in the very beginning. Thus, we can just do our best and make the most in this life. There are a hymn saying that : I don't know about tomorrow and many things I don't understand. But I know who holds the future and I know how holds my hand."For sure God is having everything under His control and we will walk according to His plan in our life. I agree with someone who said that "life is not measured by its length but by its depth".As long as we can do our best in this life, we have a meaningful life life then. Length will then becomes a bonus and even when we are old and lives without health, but something is sticking in history that we were here and has already dedicated our life to the human world with our best performance.I think that will be good enough. Have a nice day and great life in the future.

It doesn't matter how long I will live. I just want to die with no unresolved issues left besides God is the really one who owns my life and I am just here to be judge by God in telling where I belong afterlife

I always say I don't want to live a long life. I am disabled, and it is hard for me to get around now, and I'm sure it will get worse as I age. It is easy to say I don't want to live long, but I keep changing my mind about what is too long. Now I am thinking 70 but as I get nearer to that age, I'll probably change my mind. I know what you mean about younger people staying away from elderly people. I am always suprised if a younger person offers to help me. It is usually because they have someone in their family that has some sort of disability, but it still suprises me.

I wish you to live a long life and get to k now the Lord Jesus as your own personal savior. He loves people with all ages and He knows everything about us.I guess it is not under our control to live longer or not, but it is a matter of how we live it even when we have a long life.I think to younger people need more education in helping the aging group because the youth will always care for their own in today's world. They don't know the meaning of love by offering help to others. I remember once I work in a social services setting, I have the opportunity tom serve the aging and I can see how they need to be care about and also pay attention with. They are nice people(most of them) and willing to share the life experience to the younger generation in order to help them grow. They care for the children and want their children have the best. I feel we should all give our appreciation to our senior citizen for all their dedication in this world. I hope that all can enjoy a merry Christmas with God's love.

I want to live a long life, because I still want to get married and have at least one child. But like some of my fellow myLotters here have said, I don't wnat to be helpless and have people taking care of me. I hate that people of my so-called-race/so-called-culture here in America do not seem to have respect for older people. These bad attitudes seem to come mostly from the poor and least educated. Everyone should understand that to get old is a privilege and honor because many people don't get to live an old age (unless the Lord takes them to be with Him.) Also, I want to live a long life because I have other things to do (genealogy search, get a book published, etc.) before I depart.

Hey Rob, there you are again. Thank you for your response all the times. It's been a great support for my post. Well, looks like you still have many things you want to do in your future such as publish a book or doing some genealogy search ,etc.Sometimes, I think that I want to live aling life and do more things as well. But after many things happened in my life, I know that I can wish for many things to happen and do my best to make it happen. Will it happen ? I don't know because there are many things whcih are not under my control. As what the Bible indicated, even our own existence wil be totoally depend on God. If He allows me to od anything, then I can do that. If He doesn't allow me to do certain things and I still want to do that, it may end up be a mess to my life. I think we all hav many dreams and hope in our life and sometimes it is important to have dream and hope to go on. But I do think that we all need a vision from God and walk according to this vision, then our life will be fulfilled. For the Bible said that "For without vision, men will perished".I think we need to always for God's vision in our life and walk according to it.At the same time, to lay down ourselves and be submissive to God's will is not easy at all. It really needs the help from the Holy Spirit.Have a nice day.

Hi wildlittlefan, I feel that quality of life is as important as quantity. I know too that we don't have a choice as to when and how we will die unless a person decides to take his/her own life. I am fortunate in that I live in a country that pays it's seniors a pension at age 65. It isn't a lot of money but enough for one to live in comfort. I am happy to still be in good health at the age of 71, but although there is nothing that I can do about it, I would not want to live a long time if I was in pain and not able to do anything. Blessings.

I think you made a point that if our country has a good welfare system to honor the senior citizen and it will be great. In my city , the government is talking about building up an medical insurance system for the aging recently.I think we are just so behind when comparing to the western world. They already have a good system in dealing with things like that already. I think it is good to have a system like that so that when people grow older, they will be more secure in living in that society.I think you raise another point that, more assistance and caring should be pay attention with when we deal with aging . For sure finance support is important for the aging since they may not have the ability to earn money like before. But money is just only a factor and caring is still important as well. I remember once I work for an aging service,I knock on the door of a senior citizen but no answer. I was intended to leave since nobody was there. But before I go, a person passed by and told me that the senior citizen is in the house . I knocked the door again and heard a voice from inside telling me that he was in there and was lying on the floor for the whole night because he fell down from his electric wheel chair. Of course I just rushed in and help him up but this experience gave me some insight that there are just so many needs in aging group that we need to deal with. And it is good to have someone to help and assist when our body is so weak. Finally, thank you for your response and I wish you can enjoy your life with all the help you can receive and merry Christmas to you.

Oh yes, for sure an eternal life is much better than this life. According to the Bible, it is a life that we will see no more pain, no more sorrow and no more tears. And especially the presence of God will always be with us and will never have to worry about growing old and suffering anymore. I really want to enter into such a glorious place someday. But as long a we are still living in this world, we still have to face the fact that we will grow old and we will grow weak in our physical body everyday. Sometimes, I think it is better to be a robot rather than being a human. For robot will never feel pain but human will. I think growing old is not the major problem. What the real problem is that when we grow old, we may have to depend on other to assist us in everything we do since our body is not that strong anymore.Counting on others and seeking help from other will always hurting our own self-esteem. I mean who wants to ask others for help if he or she can do things on his is her own. It is a sense of incapable that really hurt our own emotion. I wish we all can have the strength to face it when we grow old. Have a nice day.

Yes and no. I do want to live a happy life and I'm not going to take my life anytime soon. But many times I just get so tired of it all. I tell my boyfriend all the time that sometimes the only thing that keeps me from ending it all is that I'd really hate to die and decide I don't like whats on the other side and not be able to get back over here. I'll just make the best of what I have. This is either the best or the worst that we get.

It really depends for me. If I have a great quality of life, then I would want to have a very long life. However, if there is some kind of ailment that I will have to suffer from in the future, then I really don't think that I would want to live a long life because of the fact that I don't know how much I would be able to look forward to in my life if I was suffering from ailments that had me debilitated. So, if I can maintain the quality of life that I have right now, I want to live to be 100 years old, but if I develop arthritis or ms, then I think I would be happy to just eventually meet my grandchildren.

Well, living a long life means we all to bear with problems of life for long time too. I won't like to live for more than 80 years but it depends if i am still going to be fit at that time then why not. And also i have to be independent at that time too as i won't like to depend on my children or grand children. But it is really not in our hand as we don't know how much we will live. Happy mylotting. Thanks for your response.

Yes, you are right when you said that we need to bear with problems of life for a long time if we will live for long.Finance and different kinds of relationships are the two major issues that everyone is facing everyday. Livivg a long life really means we astill have to stay with all these problems as well. Sometimes we are jsut getting tired with problems like these and it looks like that will never end until the day we leave this world. On the other hand, we can probably say that it is the responsibility of human to handle issue like that and it is a sign to show us that we are still alive.I also agrre with you that if we have a healthy physical body , it is good to have along life. As long as we don't have to count on others for survival, livng longer is just a good idea. I also want to see my children and my grand chidren as well if I still can,. Unfortunately , I didn't have any children and I have never planned to have one anyway. Will it be too upset? Well,Once a while I feel I have missed something when I saw a nice family walking on the street with theirbeautiful and lovely children. However, when I saw the problems between the parents and the children, I feel happy that I have all the freedom and no need to deal with problemds like that. Well, I guess, it really depends on the person. But no matter what kind of family we are having at the moment, I think we should enjoy life since our life olnly happen once.Happy Mylot.

Living a long but meaningful life is good for me. My grandparents are over 90 and they're still functioning well. AT that age they still continue to love and care for each other and continues to set examples to all of us. They're still capable of giving us lessons about life and showing us the wisdom of aging gracefully. If I were to choose, I'd choose having a meaningful life whether be it short or long.

I agree with you when you say to live along a meaningful life. There are people who live a long life but looks like they lived for nothing. They have a long life but makes no contribution to the human world. In my city ,there is a rich man who made rich by his gambling business. He opened lots of casino and became very rich, but everything he did seems only for himself and didn't really have and real contribution to the society. he somtimes will donate money to many different place but just for the sake of earning himself a more popular name and everybidy can see that.He is over his 80's now and have four wives and more than 20 children I guess. He just have a stroke recently and seems like h can hardly recognise anybody by now. I don't know how long he is going to live but I Would definately consider him as a man hwo live a long life but without any meaning. I think our life can have more positive influece and impact to human life than a rich amn like that. He is rich and living a long life, but he only showa a negative side for the next generation and a poor education model. Why? It is because all he did in life was teach people how to get rich by being a gambler.A long life like that? No Thanks! At least not for me.Thank you for your response and have a nice day.

I want to live a long life with my dear husband accompanying me beside. We'll educate our kids well and I'm sure they will take good care of us when we were in our senior age. I've examples beside me. My grandparents are taken very good care of by their daughters and sons, they come back to their family every satuday to have a get-together, the whole big family would have delicious dinner together, talking with their parents about their life and work, sharing with their siblings this and that, and their grandchildren are also getting alone very well. what a big happy family! I admire my grandparents greatly, they're now in their 87th and living a happy as well as regular life. Getting up every morning to do exercise together, then have breakfast, then rest, then read papers or watch TV, they'll cook dinner together and take walks in the nearby park in the afternoon or evening, and waiting for weekends for all their children and grandparents to come over to see them. I'm not meaning that they don't have worries or problems,, yes, they do have, about works, about earning money, but their children are diligent and making great efforts, everything is fine with them. I wish they'll live a happy life till 100 or even more, and I hope my old life with be the same as theirs.

It is surely a blessing if you can have a happy family and nic3e children who are willing to to care of you in this world. I think the society where welfare system is more mature for aging will always provide good services to senioe citizenz when they grow old. Most of theses countries are western culture oriented. But in Asia, it is totally different stories. It really depends on which country you are living at. You can always see many old age begger on the street of China or India. They have no body to take care of and their government are unable to take care of them. That's why they have to stay on the street and beg for food and money. Most if them are in poor health condition. Itis always so sad to see people living like that in their old age. It would be nice to live a long life if everything goes well and who wants to die so early if everything is fine. But there are jsut still so many people suffering in their old age and that's why a question of this topic rose up : do we still wants to live a long life if we don't have good health and everything si miserable when we are hetting old ?I hope more people can response to this. Hav a nice day and enjoy your life all the times.God bless you.

I really would like to live a long life. Long enough for me to be able to see our daughter have her family. Long enough to see my daughter's children have their own families too. Nut perhaps, i maybe too old by then. However, that depends if i will still be as mobile as i am now and healthy enough not to be a burden to my daughter much less to her family . i wish when i get to my senior years i am still capable of doing something that is worthwhile, like attending prayer meetings together with my husband. I wish to be still able to travel anywhere. yes, younger generations don't like getting old, that's because they are enjoying their youth. However, everybody has to pass every stage of life and as one will move into another stage of his life he will surely find something he could be proud of. As he grows old, his taste will differ as well as his outlook of life. As he matures he will look for someone to share his life with and that's the time he will say i don't mind growing old .. as long as i have someone to grow old with and wish that they may live a long life !

It is alwyas a good idea to see your children and your grandchildren grow up. I think all the normal people wants to see things like that happen in their life. As we grow older and getting mature, we will know that life is not always that easy and not that smooth all the times. I think our wisdom do grows up with age and experiences and this will be a good things to the next generation. It is because we can share more about life to them so that they can learn from their older mentor. However, when we get through the old age , we all have to experience all the change that we need to face during that periods of time. We will look back and sometimes see things differently. There will be some regret for some people and they will always be some good memory as well. All these experiences can be a guildline to our next generation if they are humble enough to listen to our sharing. Anyway, living a long life will be always be agood thing if we are in good health and still can be a good model for the next generation. Have a happy day and enjoy every moment of your life.

Hi wildittlefan. I am a 60 year old child. I was working as an office in a public office. I was very responsible person in those days. But now, after my retirement I feel free. I am owner of my website launched my son with title bar of my name. People gave me respect and they want to learn something from my life experience. My other son is living in a separate home. He could not get up early in the morning. So I use to go there home to pick her daughter on my old bicycle to give her drop for her school. I try to keep my fit and enjoy the remaining life. I think this is bonus life. The elder people should try to keep them fit and they should enjoy their remaining life. We agree that we come here to go. Come and go, novelette of life is just so, here are toys, full of joys, It is a message for elders and also young fellows that “old is gold” but every old is not gold. Elders could prove them gold, before leaving this bloody world. Thanks for reading.
