Getting mistaken for one of your parents on the telephone.

We all sound a bit different on the telephone. I sound nothing like my mother in real life but we sound enough alike on the phone that more than one person has confused us. It always makes me feel bad when I had to correct them when I answered the phone. They go on, not realizing it is me for a while before I gently have to correct them. Did you ever get mistaken for one of your parents over the phone?

I'm always mistaken for my mother too. I don't know why, we don't sound alike in person too- I have a deeper voice. But I don't mind it anymore... I just correct them then give the phone to my mom.

Yeah it can be a bit awkward for a moment. It just proves how much the phone can alter our voice. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Haha, yes indeed, has happen many times before. Friends of my dad always call him on his cell-phone, but he always lets it slinger around in the kitchen or anything. So I pick up and they all start talking, without having the notice that it actually is me, just his son... As some had already started asking for ways to help fix their bike (since my dad knows how a bicycle is made, what problem can occur and what is the best bike etc.) And than I can't answer any of them, facing the problem that I sometimes don't know how to tell them it's not him. Must be a pain for them as well to say the same story over again.

I can only imagine saying the same thing over and over again for sure. It is hard to find the right time to tell them and it can be a bit awkward a lot of the times. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
