Do you believe spanking over the knee on the bare bottom is child abuse?

I'm talking about spanking a child over the knee on their bare bottom with a wooden hairbrush or using your hands. Spanking with objects is not child abuse to me. It's discipline to me. Spanking does not work on every child. Timeout does not work on every child either. Talking and reasoning does not work on every child. So if a child is bad enough they should get the spanking. So do you think it's Discipline or Child Abuse. This is discipline to me.

i don't know. i guess it kinda depends on how far the parent takes it. if its just one swat then no, i wouldn't rally call it child abuse. now if it was multiple times each and everytime the child did someting wrong then yeah, i would class that as child abuse. i'm also with alot of others though, i'd rather use a diffrent method of punishment before a spanking.

Hi AbelLewis, Welcome to myLot. I hope that you will make both friends and money here. As for your discussion, I don't agree with spanking, so I would call it child abuse. I feel that when we spank a child we are sending a message that violence is okay. The parent is the adult and I truly believe that no child has to be spanked, there are other ways. Blessings.

You know, when I was raising my child, I didn't think so, but not that I'm babysitting my grandchild, I don't want to lay a hand on him that way. I can't stand it when he puckers up and starts crying like his feelings are hurt. I don't know the difference, but I just can't do it. I guess I'm helping everyone else spoil him.

Hi AbelLewis and welcome to my lot. I think that is correcting a child if they deserve a spanking. I think that is what is wrong with a lot of our children in the world today they didn't get taught the right way when they were young. I think parents should spank their children if they did something and won't stop misbehaving. When I grew up mother didtn't spank us she would throw stuff at us and beat on us. But I thank God I had a strict mother because I might not have truned out as good as I am. And I am no angle....LOL When I was raising my children I would spank them on the bottom when they wouldn't mind me and they are no angles either but they are good children these days. No I do not think that spankings are child abuse I think all children want to be taught the right way.

Lol, good thing My parents Disciplined me with a little of Abuse but more with Discussion, I swear even the smallest of Abuse will make a kid turn on you when their older, I mean whenever my dad Even talks to me in a Strong Way I feel like I just wanna Knock his teeth out, only thing holding me Back is the thought of what my dad would do if i did, like kick me out of the house or Not speak to me in like Months or years. I know that if they pushed me any further I wouldn't be the same right now. In any word Just don't do it, it'll have a negative draw back in the future.
