Just when the balikbayan (homebound expatriates) started coming for the long Christmas vacation with their kamaganakan (relatives), travel advisories had been given by the United States, the United kingdom, Australia, etcetera, about impending terrorist attacks that are likely to take place in this islands. The question is Who are the targets? When President Aquino expressed disgust because there was no prior information given his office by these countries whom we have good relations with, the US embassy in Manila quickly responded that they issued the same advisory they gave months back, and they issued it on November 1st, a holiday, when all the Filipinos had flocked en masse in the cemeteries to celebrate All Saints/Souls Day! And now, just when President Aquino is Japan bound for APEC, Nihon jin declares the same thing. We are counting days now and the only smoke we see is from the eruption of Mt. Bulusan. I do think that this terrorist warnings has got something to do with the meets about the Visiting Forces Agreement. After all, America sent its former pres Bill Clinton to tell us that we need them. Now, I am for friendship, especially with America, but I am never for the combat training in the South of the Philippines. Our natives in Cotabato are already displaced. Their nipa huts were blasted by the training weapons. So I think we should terminate that unnecessary agreement and move on with matters that really mean progress and development for the Philippines, like the rehabilitation of the infrastructure from the airport to the the metropolis and beyond. America could re-align their strategic forces in the Pacific by installing their hi=tech gadgets in New Zealand, or even Australia. After all, Australia is also nuts about terrorism and issued that advisory, too.

Hello Eileen, And These are considered OUR ALLIES? If I knew better, they should have contacted the President first to let him know personally about a possible terrorist threat so that PNOY can asess the situation. What happen to the decency of informing the President of the Philippines first before giving this SICK travel advisory. They've been talking behind our backs? Leaving US out of the Loop? don't at least our Government have the right for information as to why they are at least giving travel advisories. We have lost so much of our culture simply because of our Alliance with these Nations. Do we really have to be a Powerful Economic Country just for them to Respect Us? :-(

Nick, if you believe the things you wrote up there, why are you even considering resettling in Davao? And please don't give an answer that your wife is a Filipino. That would not make you secure enough for terrorist attacks. And yes Knight, that is exactly the point, these countries had underestimated our new government. I caught a glimpse of President Aquino reiterating his disgust over the malicious travel advisories, and he was being interviewed with New Zealand's Prime Minister. The PM was mum! fjaril, my country is not out of poverty yet, but in the five months that President Aquino is handling the affairs of the land, many investors had come, willing to do business with this battered nation. Now that our President is making a stance at the APEC, that we could not be tossed anymore, the streaks of sunlight are becoming brighter and sunnier... Thanks very much for your interest. The Philippines is blessed with a beautiful land and a kind and hospitable people. I think I am the only war monger here, as Nick and Knight know! Peace Nick! Till our next encounter! The Pacman will be on the world's stage tomorrow. NB: See how a Filipino fights. :)

Then let the ALLIES informed our Government here about the situation they stay in the Philippines for a short or long periods of time. it's the governments fault if they screwed up, then there goes the blame again. so, instead of just informing the future tourist, also notify the government. it's actually making US here look bad when were not informed. know what, just banned our country instead of this uninformed advisories that would have been MORE DIRECT. I seriously don't want to argue. oh, yes it does. we always get the bad news in the eyes of foreign media.

Hi Eileen, Love The Pacman and have watched many of his fights, one live in Jollibee, Davao. He is a true world champ and a credit to the Philippines. Can anyone tell me where I can watch it live online because we don't get it here on TV. Yes Eileen, I can't wait to resettle in Davao. It is a beautiful place with wonderful people and very safe because of Dirty Harry the mayor, or deputy mayor now. The problem is the MLF and the MILF or something who control large tracts of Mindanao. Your last president made peace with one group and promised autonomy but the locals had it overturned by a class action. So these lovely people went on a rampage and sacked dozens of towns and villages and killed many many people and burned their houses and crops and livestock in revenge. Thousands were displaced and made homeless. These lovely people still live happily in their own part of Mindanao and do as they wish. As I said before, the army does not venture into their area. Why do we have this sort of lawlessness still existing in this day and age. Why is the Philippine army and government powerless to to do anything but allow them to plunder and kill at will. I can't visit this area. The Philippine military can't visit this area. It is as if you have a separate little country coming over the border at will and raiding as they wish. The army just chases them back into their own part and leaves them there. If it was another country nearby doing that there would be much hullabaloo. Sorry for my rant, but you have a beautiful country being ruined by a small minority of nutters. I think it is time that it was cleaned up and the threat eradicated. I know of several who have instigated tourist travel companies to bring tourists to your beautiful islands only to have their plans scuttled by these stupid travel warnings. The economy suffers. There are terrorists in the Philippines. They bombed Bali and went back to safe haven in Mindinao. They live and train there. The Davao airport is closed and will never be open to the public while this threat is nearby which is a shame. So while this small bunch of idiots are allowed to exist you will always have travel warnings. Eradication seems to be the only solution in my view. Once again, sorry for the rant. Catch you, Nick

Down in poor old primitive Mindanao we have regular bombings and attacks by several of these groups that are being warned about. Davao city is relatively safe but only because of heavy security. The roads leading into the city are protected by military in sandbagged command posts. Davao has a new modern international airport that is empty because of military security because it was bombed. You can't even go there to see relatives off or greet them when they arrive. All companies in outlying areas are regularly attacked and their equipment burned and money extorted as are the bus companies that ply the country routes. The commander of the army stationed in Mindanao during recent elections was quoted as saying that even the army does not venture into areas controlled by some elements. If the local military is unable to have any effect on this lawlessness surely a competent military force should be requested from overseas to aid the local military and end the misery of the local people who are getting regularly killed and forced from their homes, their livestock slaughtered and their crops burned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maguindanao_massacre The link is just one story of some of the idiots in control in Mindanao with the blessing of the president.

Nick, I suggested that America install their forces in New Zealand or Australia. Then you guys can control the Pacific the way you want it pacified. And Japan can join you and you can have fun with your psychological wars. And the United Kingdom and France can have the Atlantic. But do leave the Philippines out of your world domination thing. Talk it out with China and Korea. Many of their people are flocking to the Philippines, supposedly because their countries might engage in an inevitable nuke war. They are hiding here, buying homes in our subdivisions, studying in our schools, shopping in our malls. And Nick, define primitive. Educational, cultural, and creative (arts and music) conferences are periodically held at the Ateneo de Davao. And please do not pluralize a single airport attack as if Davao is now a no man's land. How is it that you readily picture Mindanao bad because of a massacre carried out by an insane, power hungry political clan. Our present government is eradicating corruption, re-educating our disillusioned soldiers, correcting the ills that had befallen Mindanao because of the coming of the terrorists who would like to attack, not us but America. Our people and our islands had been used and abused, our beauty tarnished, almost beyond repair. And I do believe that America is putting its war on our islands, as it did in WW2.

You wanna avoid more rants don't settle in the Philippines, you can stop now if you really want to.with Mindanao, Luzon would be shorthanded with food and other supplies. never under estimate mindanao and it's potential growth.

The arrangements should not be made at all. There is no use of making such an arrangements which do not have value and not bothered to do so. Always think of the other things which are more important and useful.

President Aquino mentioned his opinion about the travel advisory to President Obama during the APEC, and the latter said he will look into it...
