How would you reconnect with your friends if you haven't seen them for awhile?

I've been away from my friends for some time now and eversince the only one I've ever been with is my girlfriend. I'm afraid that if I started calling them again and ask them if they wanted to hang-out, they might reject my invitations.
I haven't minggled with them for almost three years now, we text or chat online once in awhile but seeing them and being with them in person is so much more different.
How can I approach them once again without being left out?

A true friend is behind you silently all the time, but if something happens,he will leave all to help you.So it is not important to contact all the time, but they should be in your heart forever and you need to support them when they are in trouble.

Thank you for your response.
Yes, I do agree that communicating with them is very important. I treasure all my friends and all the memories I have of them that's why I make sure once in a while I get to at least send them an email or message. Unfortunately, I don't have a vacant time to spend with them that's why somehow I felt like I lost my connections with them eventhough we communicate through emails and texts.

Hi,
I do lost contact with some old mates...and some even we have not
meet up since we graduated from high school,It has been more than 15 years.
I do keep in touch with them back through facebook, therefore, I would
say facebook is a very good site which make me find back some of my
old friends and I also have some new friends through facebook.
Of course,it is bit awkwards to keep in touch with some old mates, not
sure where to start from...but I always tell myself, don't feel shy, just
start to approach them and then only the conversation will go on.
Give it a try and sure you can do it.
At first, you can simply email them asking about their life ,then from there you will get a respond and then the next conversation will carry on.
Probably you can suggest a meet up or small reunion with them and I believe they will feel great to have such gathering again.

Hello, thank you for your response.
I have actually sent one friend of mine a message in facebook. We exchanged numbers and just the other day he texted me and so I replied to his message. I mentioned in my text message that if they have some sort of gathering, he can text me so I can try to vacant my schedule to meet up with them. I never received any replies up to now.
I have attended one of their get togethers a couple of years ago but I ended up being left out. I'm afraid that if ever I do attend some of their gathering again, I might end up talking to myself once again since I don't have anything to say which is related to what their conversations are.
I don't know maybe I'm just frustrated on how to reconnect with them again or how to start the conversation with them again.

I think that as long as you're still in touch with them it should be fairly easy to invite them over. Plan an occasion or simply tell them how much you miss hanging out with them.

My story is that I moved away from my friends. I have used social networking sites to reconnect and share what I have been doing with my life and seeing what they have been doing aswell. Our relationships havent been the same in my eyes. But I enjoy catching up and chatting when we do.

So why do you need your old friends now?? You've been bad to them by not keeping in touch.
Maybe you could first chat and text more often, then call frequently. Take interest in their day to day affairs and show genuine care and affection to them. Get to know what they are doing currently and tell them about your life too.. Then suggest having a reunion," hey how about meeting up this weekend for lunch? " Suggest having potluck at your home maybe. Or plan to meet up at a restaurant for lunch or dinner or coffee maybe.
If one person rejects the invitation, fine, you have the others, dont you?
Everyone needs social activities, they will be happy to join in with you.
And when they invite you, please go!

I would let them know that I can be reached for emails or other comments. After I've reconnected with them on the phone, I would know what they are doing now, where they live, and most importantly when they want to hang out with me. Being on the business side, after we know each other for a while and can put trust in each others actions, I would introduce them to my business ventures. This would further help our friendhip and chatting hours together. After, true friendship comes in many different shapes, colors and sizes. For me, it also come in many different businesses.
