Poor old Connie Computer my precious and trusty PC has died a death (AGAIN) she is now in the computer shop seeing if she can be fixed and I am left with hubby's or son's laptop. I will miss her I am just so used to all her little ways. I love XP and am not a lover of Vista or Windows 7 and if she is pronounced completely done for I have to make the decisions desktop or laptop. I REALLY want to stick with a desk top but know that a laptop has more scope - which do you prefer?

I have been in your boat. We have had out desktop since 2001. We started with Windows 98, then XP, which I love. The fan had gone several times and we have had a new motherboard and have added more memory. The last time it quite, I decided to buy a laptop as I said it was time to get rid of the desktop....and that my husband will not want to get it fixed again. So, I bought my laptop and my husband did, indeed fix the desktop...so now it belongs to him and my son and I have my own laptop....with no one else using it. I like the fact that I can move the laptop to any place, although it seems to stay on my dining room table day after day. It had Windows 7 and it is a chore to try to figure things out....but I'm working at it. I had a hard time adjusting to typing on a laptop....and if you get one you will know what I am talking about....all in all, I recommend buying a laptop.

Whatever I buy will be a few months off yet - no spare pennies at the moment I had been toying with the idea of getting a notepad to have as well as the old PC, I shall have to see- heynta will be kind to me!!!!

if I got a laptop, I would have to do what I did with the laptop loaner I got from my geek, hook up a keyboard and mouse! Oh, I can use them on a laptop, but I'd rather have the real deal!

I have never used a laptop, but was considering one when I got this desktop PC. I ended up getting the desktop and someone gave me some things, so I only had to buy a monitor and a printer. I guess there are advantages to both. The laptop is mobile, but the desktop is easier to print from.

You could aways get a wireless printer for your laptop.

I like my desktop but laptops are good for traveling and I like my key board. Also I like my desktop mouse.I understand what you mean about vista when I first got my desktop with Vista I striped her down by changing the desktop theme to windows clissic since it uses less system resources then used webshots to give my computer cool back ground and lowered some other graphic settings on my computer under control panel then performance info and tools then adjust visual effects. Also shuting down the start up programs that you do not use helps some.

I prefer a desktop PC. A laptop may be handy, but it has nowhere near the memory or hard drive that my desktop has, nor the processor speed. But then I bought all the bits and assembled it myself. I never really got along too well with Vista, but what I have seen of Windows 7 looks encouraging. Fingers crossed that you get your old faithful back.

My laptop is also "critically ill" and I am planning on upgrading but I do not have the budget to do so now. I still prefer a laptop over a desktop, so if I do decide to upgrade it will be a laptop still.

Hope your Desktop will be all right, the type of Computer may depend on the type of work you will be performing, going for Laptop means that you want something that is portable and you can move around with it which sometime is convenience, I found a desktop for computer to of much greater activities and if you have demanding activities on your computer I would rather go for a Desktop, currently am using a Laptop but on the disadvantage side you have to be close to the screen to be able to see well which is also not healthy to our eyes

I do a lot of printing from mine so it is a lot more convenient to have the printer set up all the time on my desktop. It tends to be like the home 'office' as my son will save his homework off his laptop and print it off through my desktop

Well hopefully they can revive Miss Connie one more time! I have a laptop and an old desktop. I love my laptop. I have a small table (which I believe is really for sliding under the bed and using as a small reading table or small little table to eat on) anyways, I put my laptop on that and sit in a big comfy chair in my bedroom and I can type on the computer while the hubby is watching t.v. at night. I love the fact that with my laptop I am not confined to just one room or one area.

Have to admit when my leg was really sore in the week I wished it was a laptop so I could sit in bed with it!!
