A thirteen year old kid was told to take the American flag off his bike by his school because they were afraid it would cause racial tensions. WTF? Where has this country gone? http://www.fox40.com/news/headlines/ktxl-americanflagbike11122010,0,3045879.htmlstory

I wouldn't take the flag down and I'd continue to ride my bike with the flag waving behind and force the school to do something about it. Let that school try... They'd lose in court. Race? My a**!

With baseball cards attached by clothespins to the spokes of the wheels to make as much noise as I could and a radio tied to the handlebars playing the national anthem. Let 'em try to get me for the noise ordnance as well.

However, if a child were to ride up waving a Mexican flag.. the school would not say a darn thing for fear of offending the hispanics.

You are sooo right. Who cares if you offend Americans. But for heavens sake DON'T offend the Mexicans or anyone else from a foreign country.

American's trying to remain politically correct and trying to please everyone all the time, is causing it's own demise. Screw being politically correct, some things are worth fighting for, and the privilege to wave the American flag is every Americans God given right, due to our military personnel who sacrifice their lives each and every day to protect or rights to be free. If my American Flag offends you, tough sh!t, then you shouldn't be in this country. Period! It's not open for discussion. I can tell you that if it had been my child, he wouldn't have removed it, what's going to happen? You suspend or expel my child from school? Go ahead and we will have a huge court battle, I'm sure there's an attorney out there that would take the case with no money upfront. American's need to stop trying to be so politically correct, and be Americans. If you read my post and are offended by it, tough. I'm an American and my family has been here since the beginning, my family has served in the military branches giving me freedoms to say what I want. On a side note, California's newest predictions estimate that California will be 52% Hispanic by 2042, http://articles.sfgate.com/2007-07-10/bay-area/17251998_1_pew-hispanic-center-state-s-most-populous-county-santa-clara-county I will be a minority in a state that has 12% of this countries population. Everything in this state is written in English and Spanish at the very least. At times you would think your in Mexico. The flea market by my house, is like walking into an open market in Mexico. Your surrounded by people speaking Spanish. So as always just my 2 cents worth. As you know this is a subject that is very dear to my heart. Thank you to all the vets for the rights and freedoms I have today. God bless you!

LOL, just so you know that comment wasn't directed at you as I know how you feel. I just don't understand why everything American has to be hushed. If American things offend "them" or enrage "them" then "they" shouldnt be here. If the American way is so dang offensive then why do these people come here. Geeze they come here illegally and complain about our laws, well if it's so bad here then why stay. Americans used to be very proud, why are we letting others dictate what is and isn't politically correct, or what is allowed? Every American should be allowed to wave the Flag proudly, should be able to say The Pledge of Alligance (if the word God offends them DON'T SAY IT THEN) Don't like money saying "In God We Trust" then don't use it, which translates to get the heLL out then, and last but not least when you here the The National Anthem YOU STAND WITH HAND OVER HEART AND TAKE YOUR DANG HAT OFF!!! (Unless you can't stand on your own) End of rant.

they're lucky i wasn't his mother. the next day i'd have the entire bike painted like an american flag. and tell them if they denied my child an education,i'd sue. this is my country.if it offends them, there's the door. this is getting ridiculous-i can't imagine any other nation putting up with this crap.

Hi Laglen, This kind of stuff infuriates me to no end. We are in America and should be proud of our flag. Anyone from another country that we let in here should also be proud of our flag and not offended by it. If they are offended by us displaying our flag in our own country then to me that is a red flag!! I am a very compassionate person and I'm all for letting other people come here from other countries to enjoy what we have here but there is a huge difference in them coming here to join us and coming here to take over. We are allowing foreign people to take over our country. When you dial any number for help on your credit card or bill, you have to press one if you want english otherwise it is Spanish!! What is that?? That is so backwards!! We are in the USA...they should be pressing 1 for Spanish (espanol). Even when you do press 1, you end up with a foreigner that you can't understand so good luck getting the help you need!

Wait is this story in America or some other country? If this was in America, I am going to be furious. He is just showing patriotism towards his country! There's nothing wrong with that. And I don't think people would even be angry at him. Even the people from other different races and cultures. They probably see American flags everyday on cars, schools, restaurants, etc. It's not like they attack someone or something whenever they see an American flag! Heck, they live in America! They should be happy that this country is trying its best to help them out. If I was that boy, I would ride my little ol' bike down the road waving my American flag proudly. Of course, I wouldn't do it in my life! And if they decide to do something with him, he should take it to court! He will definitely win this one. Now, if this is in another country, that could be a whole different story!

Thank you Beanie, Keeegan, this is in the US and is happening all over the place. There are veterans that are being told to take down their flags, kids not allowed to wear flag shirts to school, it has far surpassed ridiculous!

This happened in Turlock, CA about a hundred miles outside of Sacramento. It aired again on the 5 o'clock news and people around here are very outraged. This is all to familiar here in CA.

Have you ever noticed that the "officials" who are afraid the US Flag might cause tension never seem to worry about being the actual cause of tension?

There have been several instances of people here in the UK being made to remove the Union Jack or the cross of St George flag from their houses/cars etc for the same reason (when I say 'reason', I mean that is the excuse used by those who would have them removed) I think Governments and official bodies telling us what we might or should feel offended by cause these tensions. The patriots who wish to fly the flag resent the people that officials decide may be upset by it and those people start to think that maybe they do have a problem with it??? (maybe?? just a thought)

How the heck is the American flag racist? Or going to cause racial tensions? It is the American flag...so if you are an American it is YOUR flag too, no matter your skin color. IF you are not an American...well this is NOT your country so don't care if you get offended by our country's flag. This is soo stupid. Where has the pride and respect for our country gone? Also what is this teaching this child? Not to be proud of his country? Not to be patriotic...especially during the week veterans day falls on? Especially in a time of war! Brave men and woman are dying RIGHT NOW to defend that flag and all of us...and a school won't let a kid wear it on his bike? I wonder...does the school have the flag on a flag pole out front? When I was a kid the schools always had a flag pole out front with the Federal and State flags on them. Don't they do that anymore?

Just a little additional information. Both Flags fly at this school both the state flag and the US flag. This town is an agricultual town located about a 100 miles away from Sacramento, it is a large hispanic community. California always seems to be the leader in the detroment of this country, it's no wonder with our high immigrant (both legal and illegal)population. See my response below to link.

I think this is just one more politically un-correct thing out there is the world. We are so worried about offending someone that we dare not turn around. Things were different when I was a kid in the late 70's to mid 80's. We were able to say, do and see more things than today. We used to sing Oh Canada everyday at the beginning of school.....today that might offend someone.....I know in the US, I have read something about some people taking offence to saying 'one nation under God"....God, what if you don't believe in God and we are offending that person. When are we going to wake up...and get back to the basics of life? ....and how to you explain this to the child who had to take the Flag off his bike...especially when the parents probably don't agree.

Boiling mad. This country HAS gone to "he-- in a handbasket." Idiots like that promote "racial tensions", stupidity, insanity, and self-destruction. This is our country and we have every right to celebrate it; anything else is ludicrous.

I heard about this earlier today and I couldn't believe it. It's got to be the dumbest thing I've heard in a long while. How could flying an American flag cause racial tensions? This school has got to be run by a complete idiot. Instead of violating the kids right to fly his flag, how about dealing with the malcontents complaining about it? He took what he thought would be the easy way out. It was easier for him to just take away the kids flag instead of dealing with the real issue. Funny though how he did an about face after being contacted by Fox News. I think he realized he was about to feel all the "tensions" he could possibly handle once the story got out and he didn't want to deal with that either. What a fine administrator he is...

Unbelievably stupid. The USA is made up of immigrants from many different countries over the past two hundred years but it is the US; now one nation..If immigrants are not prepared to honour the flag the the USA fought for, then it is the wrong country for them to settle in. You can have your old alliances but as an immigrant you must be prepared to adapt to your new country by learning the language and respecting the flag of that country and the laws of that country too
