pet stores.. good or bad?

I saw a show on tv last night showing how poorly animals are treated in pet stores before they are sold.. no excercise... left in tiny cages or boxes for days.. carted around like nothing more than cargo.. sick and under nourished yet sold at high prices.. the show posed the question.. 'should pet stores be made WITHOUT pets.. and the pets are kept at safer alternative locations until sold?' Whats your opinion? Personally to me i would rather save a dog about to put down, but i know all pet stores can't be as bad as the ones i saw

I worked in a pet shop many years ago. Dogs are, like people, meant to be free. A good local breeder is a far better place to purchase a dog than a pet shop. A dog kept with its litter mates in a roomy kennel out doors is a much happier and healthy - physically and psychologically than one kept in a cage in a store.

I don't know about pet stores and how they treat them. Near my house, there's a shopping centre and in the basement, there's a pet store. So far, I've only seen one doggy inside the cage, I think it was waiting for its owner. I don't know if they treat the animals well. I think it's the case and I hope so. Animals also have lives. They also have feelings like we all do. The people shouldn't treat them so harshly.

Probably some pet stores don't care for the animals there but some do know how to take care of them. But for sure, I will never buy a pet which is just sold on streets particularly puppies. I rely felt so pity that those puppies at a young age are already taken away from their mom. Whoever reads this post, think better not to buy puppies that are less than 2 or 3 months old. These pups need to be fed by their mother. You also need vaccination for pets like dogs. About birds in cages, I also pity them. If I just have the money to buy a bird being sold on a cage, I will let that bird fly away and enjoy nature and being with it's fellow animals. In my country I will never see birds flying freely and carefree than the birds which I always see everywhere in India. I always enjoy to see birds soaring, flying, enjoying their plight and making their own noise and chirping sound.

I actually pity pets that are in pet stores.sometime I wish I could take them all home.I love pets.as I've said in some topics,I choose to be childless and have pets instead.animals in the pet stores are cramped and haven't experienced human love and interaction.I would rather have a pet store that sells accessories like leashes,dog/cat foods, pet beds etc and don't sell animals.

I think the pet stores are nice place to sell animals. It's just that they have a great environment there. But it's sad looking at them in tiny cages. They should be free and run loosely around the garden or backyard. But here in my country, they sell puppies on the streets. In one medium-sized cage, there are 10 puppies in it. It's hot in here and I pity those poor creatures. They'll turn into a hotdog. :( That's why I prefer the pet stores.

I think they should have a adoptioncenter. And in the store you only see pictures of the animals, and if you wanna see them close, you can come to the center and see the dog or cat or what you want. I was in Spain, and there they have small glass boxes with the little puppy inside, and I really felt with that pore guy. And the only reason of the boxes, is that they will give the costumers sadly and bad conscience. And that is bad behaver!

I've never seen any of the pet stores near us having undernourished animals. I'm sure there are pet stores that do have conditions like you said and that is really sad. I bought a bird from a pet store once and then I always felt bad about it after that because a bird shouldnt be caged. As neat of a pet as they are a bird should be free to fly around outside and live free.
