Which is more practical?

I have posted a discussion where I lost 30lbs these past few months. This means that in losing those unwanted pounds, I am also down a few dress sizes. This means that I now have pants, shirts and blouses that are three sizes bigger and makes me look like a clothes hanger when I wear them. Which brings me to my question, which is more practical? Have them altered in order so that the clothes will fit? Or buy new ones? When I bought these clothes, it was with some difficulty because I was so fat then. It also means that I shelled out extra money for these clothes, so these aren't clothes that I can just throw away. Would you have these altered or just buy new ones?

you have the answer for your question.. since you can't throw them away and those clothes were expensive, alter them for your new size.. you can also give ti to somebody in your family if they are your past-size.. another thing i want to know is how did you lose that much weight. because i too wanna lose my weight ;-)

I have no idea how I lost that much weight. Maybe I just increased my fruit intake? I am still eating the same foods with the same frequency and I don't exercise. Thank you for your response.

I think its rather efficient buying new clothes because you've changed dress sizes. You may have a sentimental feeling towards them, but over time you may like newer clothes rather than your old pairs of clothing. Jeans, T-Shirts and other articles of clothing are really abundant nowadays that many different styles, designs or qualities can be found easily. If you have clothing you are not willing to give up, do tailor them to fit you. Try throwing or putting away clothing that you don't like much, as you'll find distaste in wearing it down the road. It always works to express your appearance differently, and wearing newer clothes will make you look like a tidy and affluent person some times. You've achieved a lot loosing weight, as I want to congratulate you. Also, you do deserve new clothes based upon the effort you put into being less heavier. Therefore, it is practical for you to save your select favorite clothes, and buy newer ones for the ones you like less.

I am planning on sorting my clothes this weekend so that I know which ones I will wear at work, and which ones I will either sell or give away. Thank you for your response!

anne25penn, I am going to encourage you to BUY new clothes and everything because you basically deserve every new dress for achieving what you have stuck out for. Personally, I feel altering all those clothes does not justify and the sense of achievement is not even peaked. Besides, you can always donate them for a good cause and keep one or two as a reminder that you will not fall back. Go ahead, you really deserve it. Have a nice day and hope to see you with your new clothing soon.

Thank you for your response . I already have my eyes on a dress and I know I will not have a problem asking for my size now that I have lost so much weight . I just want to have some of my old (not really that old) altered because I have worn them just for a few times and it will be a shame to just throw them away.

Buy new clothes. Since now you've lost so much weight, I think it's good that you reward yourself with some good and nice looking clothes. No use wearing and altering those old clothes because they may not look as nice as before. Clothes now are better looking and I'm sure with your body now compared to last time, it should look nice on any clothes!

Thank you for your response . I am thinking of buying new ones, but I don't have the space to store the old ones. With so much weight loss I can now try on clothes whereas before I was always hesitant even asking for the biggest size available because they did not fit.

I would be a person that would buy new clothes instead of investing all of the money that it would take to have all of my old clothes altered. Instead of just throwing out the clothes that I was now too small to wear, I would try to sell them. There are many different options of places that you could use to sell the clothes. You could try a consignment store, Craigslist or even cheapcycle if that is available in your area.

I wish there is a cheapcycle in our area or country, but unfortunately we don't have that here. Thank you for your response!

I would just buy new clothes. I might want to keep the old clothes just in case you might start to gain weight. I have been on both sides of the table so I kind of know what you are talking about. I know it might sound expensive to buy clothes but actually smaller sizes are cheaper. I bought some clothes at yard sales for $1 this week because I lost a few pounds myself. I am still keeping my other clothes in case I gain back my weight.

I am also thinking about this, because I may gain weight and if ever, at least I don't have to buy new ones. I just don't like a cluttered closet that's why I am hesitant in buying new ones. Thank you for your response!

It depends on where you shop. If it is cheaper to buy new clothes then I would buy new clothes. But if the cost of altering the clothes is less, then I would alter the clothes. But I think no matter what, if there are some clothes that you absolutely love, then have them altered. If you really like something, then it would be worth paying.

if your into fashion, altering isn't bad. a yard sale isnt a bad idea otherwise to make back some funds. Afterwords donation isn't a bad tax right off.

If there wold be no problem with you altering those big clothes, then no problem, it will save you money. For as long as it will still look nice to you then do that. But if it will not, no choice but to buy new clothes that will fit your new size. Huh! Wondering how you've lost that 30 lbs. hahaha share.... thank you. Have a nice day!
