It seems that no matter what time of the day or night, there are loads of cars that are on the roads. You have the mad drivers and then you have the good drivers.Even on estates where there are children playing there are soo many cars that speed, sooner or later a child is going to get hit by one of the drivers if something is not done.

Hi JugsJugs, I too have this issue... It is not just the kids but also all others on the road are in danger of getting hit by these fast moving things. Unfortunately there is little that can be done here. I had been thinking what are the steps they could take but then everything seems to fail. In India there is no Law to check the Speeds of vehicles and this has proved fatal for many but there is nothing yet not even in the pipelines of the Policy makers. It is all the Luck of the others on the streets or roads when they are out - if you are lucky you return home safe... Cheers, theSids.

Here they have laws that are todo with speed as well as dangerous drivers, however it seems like noone seems to care or the speeders get caught.I feel that there is soon going to be a nasty accident. We have had one person killed on a push bike a few years ago, as well as a motor bike rider that also was killed.

they've put speed bumps in where i live, supposedly to slow the cars down, but i've noticed that they only slow down while going over the bumps and speed up inbetween them, also outside the primary schools the cars tend to speed down there which i think is diabolical

I am worried about how fast the cars come past my house day and night and also how many cars are parked near the main road as well as on the main road.As for outside schools i think that it is high time that the traffic wardens were about with the police to get some of the speeders, cause sooner or later someone is going to get ran over.

It's insane. I live in California, and the streets and freeways always seem to be crowded no matter what part of the day it is.

Hi jugsjugs, I have noticed the same thing here, there are more cars than ever before and also more people are speeding. It's just too bad that people don't see the dangers of such speeding both for themselves and others. I know that most people would feel terrible if they killed a child, yet they seem certain that that could never happen to them. The law against speeding in such areas has to be enforced. Blessings.

haha =D YEah, it's happening everywhere. THe worst situation should be in china. In the past, china is well known for being a bicyle country, because everybody is travelling around using that. BUt now, due to their own production of cars and being so car, everybody is ditching their bicycles for cars on the road! haha =D Even my country now, COE prices are going so high up, yet amount of cars remains the same. Safety of children aside, pollution is going to get worst.. haha

In my city 40 years ago there were few cars owned by rich people, same with bikes, scooters and motor cycles, they were treated as luxry items; but things have chaged drastically, people buy cars on 'loan' through banks, though they don't have repaying capacity!! Guys and girls can get a driving license easily, drive carelessly, cause accidents, narrow roads, lack of knowledge of traffic rules are causes too.. Thank you so much for this nice discussion. Professor. . Cheers God bless you. Welcome always.

I know what you mean, even where I live I think people drive too fast, even on the residential streets where kids live and play. There are speed limit signs posted but I think most people don't pay attention to them and speed anyway. I sure would hate to see something happen to a child because someone was speeding.

You are right about the fact that there is a lot of traffic on the roads these days. That said, I know there have been several incidences in our area in the past couple of years where there have been pedestrians that have been hit. I am trying to be vigilant with my children about teaching them how to use proper safety on the street. However, I also know that it isn't doing any good because they also have to assume that drivers are somewhat aware of what is going on as well.

I agree that there are loads more cars on the roads today. Even in the suburbs where I live, there are definitely more cars with young drivers on them. At nights when it is supposed to be a lot less cars, it is actually more dangerous. Aside from being dark, a lot of race-car driver-wannabe's are out on the road with their dad's or mom's car.

I agree there are a lot of cars/trucks on the roads, and some drive so badly, their licenses should be revoked. I live out in the country and there are very few children here. And even as bad as the road (2 miles of rock) is some of my neighbors drive like everything is an emergency. If we grade the road, they drive that much faster. If we don't grade the road, they drive that much faster in an attempt to hit every fourth hole instead of every hole. We've asked everyone to slow down, but that went in one ear and out the other. Since it's a private road, the county sheriff has no jurisdiction. So I just keep waiting for an accident. Someone's going to be going too fast and they'll skid off in to the ditch. Fortunately, there shouldn't be any children around.

I couldn't agree more. We live in a narrow road. Cars park on either side- though it is too narrow to park opposite. So the road often resembles a chicane- that cars speed down. It's also two way, so I am surprised that nothing serious has occurred. There are days (often at night) where you could not get an ambulance or fire engine along there. Now we have flats where some buildings were redeveloped, with young families.

I agree. There are far too many cars on the road now. IT's happening everywhere, from china to my country and even to india. With the amount of cars on the road now, accidents are bound to happen due to congestion or impatient drivers. This is one invention whereby those car makers did not see it coming. There are always people saying smoking kills, but i have to add, driving kills the same amount of people too.

It is tru that the number of cars on the road has been increasing these days. I'm from the Philippines. In our country, the government has already acted on that. They are now making studies to further develop the traffic system as to reduce the number of public and private vehicles on the raods since it is true that the roads are no longer safe for individuals. The problem that you have cited is already happening. Thee afre several vehicular accidents that happen every now and then due to vehicles are overcrowded on the streets and public highways.

Yes, it is sad but apparently the only solution is to keep children away from the roads.

Okay, here we go with this car issues in our roads, well sometimes it is hard to explain the drivers side for driving fast~racing for a deadlines, meeting, etc. Of course there are good drivers that drives fast. Bumps are designed to help solve this problem though, or government shall hires additional traffic aids, and that would impossible, or perhaps possible. Anyway, roads are design for cars, passerby, it is not a playground in the first place. Sometimes children just stay along the roads playing, that is not proper actually. Children must be inside the gate or indoor, not along the roads. To help solve this, parents must try to descipline there children not going to roads. Blessed day.

The amount of cars in my country now, I should say, is mushrooming. It has grown to a huge number and the duration of jams has increased compared to last time. Drivers of course, have become very impatient and I hear horns being sounded all the time. Even though my government has imposed a Certificate of Entitlement to every vehicle, people still continue to buy cars because cars have become such a necessity nowadays.

Hi jugsjugs, Yes, there are a lot of cars on our roads and highways these days. I am a very nervous when I drive in heavy traffic, so I try very hard to stay focused on what I am doing and watch out for the other drivers who may be speeding or jumping lanes. You would think on Sundays there would be less traffic out there, but One Sunday I was driving home from visiting my mother over the weekend and won't you know it, that Sunday morning a car came out of no where, it seemed, and hit another car and knocked it completely off the road into the median strip. The rear-end of the car was completely crushed. After many years of driving, that was my first firsthand witness to a major car accident. It really shook me up. In the inner city, the speed bumps do help slow drivers down but out there on the open road, drivers just have to look out for themselves and the other drivers who may be distracted by conversations on the cellphones or trying to control the children in the backseat. I don't think the traffic problem will be getting better, just worse; everyone wants to get there in a hurry.

Hi Jugs I agree with you, now a days cars are moving like ants on every road, and you concern about safety is really appreciatory, I also have the same concern, I have seen that there is always sing board near a school to slow down and the drives always rush from that place with high speed, now they have made some speed bumps and it is very good, and the best thing is the school authorities concern about this thing, they always send some volunteer students near a road and they stop traffic for a moment to allow the children cross the road and I think this is good initiative from the authorities...:) Be Happy and be the reason of happiness in others life...:) Have a nice day...:)
