My family went to see Secretariat the other night. it is a story about a race horse. The reason we are so interested in seeing it, is because the jockey, Ron Turcotte lives about 30 kms from my house. He is a local guy, who you see in malls, restaurants etc. This was a great movie with a great story.

I have not seen the movie - probably won't. But that's really cool that the star is someone you see around a lot.I haven't ever lived really close to anyone famous like that at all. That's really cool!

Good question, I compare the movie "Secretariat" to piano tuning. If you tune every key on a piano to mathematical precision, you're going to get dissonance, especially in modulating from one key to another. This is where "the art of the whole" comes in, and I think Disney did a good job tuning Secretariat's story to a gold standard, rather than to perfection. The factual errors didn't bother me as much as I thought they would. My mind and heart skimmed over them as I watched. The Pancho Martin-Sham aspect was ham-handed, but I saw it as shorthand for all the competing forces that Secretariat and his connections had to resolve. I have no complaints about any of the actors chosen or their performances. I especially enjoyed "Penny", "Eddie Sweat", and "Miss Hamm". I lost my father last year, and the scenes with Penny and the dying Christopher Chenery meant a lot to me. The racing scenes were the best I've seen in any racing movie. I was dreading the music "Oh Happy Day", but it struck me as surprisingly appropriate in the end. I have never thought of that song as a "gospel", just an uplifting tune for the times. I talked to a few people from the audience after the movie. All of them had a big smile and a kind word about what they'd seen Enjoy mylot always...

The racing scene where Penny;s family was watching on their tv was actual footage. I have only known Oh Happy day as gospel. I loved the movie. Great story all around.
