I'm now using windows xp service pack 3 and i did not use windows 7 yet. but my friends used windows 7 and they told me that windows 7 is much better then windows xp, windows 7 is much faster then windows xp. They told me that windows 7 support all the software's which windows xp is also not support. My friends told me that windows 7 has a great fashionable looks which windows xp don't have. which one will be best for me, Windows xp or windows 7??????????? please suggest me....

Personally I think Windows 7 is waste of resources. XP is a lightweight, fully featured operating system while 7 is basically the same operating system that uses MUCH MORE ram and cpu. It is setting back the computer industry, four years ago a computer with eight gigs of ram and a 2.6 ghz dual core processor running XP would be able to handle anything you threw at it with ease, That same system running 7 will perform like a computer with 1 gig of ram and a 2ghz single core processor running xp, lagging to open programs an copy files. sure 7 has great graphics but at a huge sacrifice. I vote no on 7.

Yes I agree!!!!! It's useless with a more complicated UI, slower, incompatible. A great downgrade to XP. But one thing, it's not the same as XP, but actually it's built on the core of Vista, the worst OS from many years back.

Still,I feel that Windows XP is the best regarding speed and other administrative features.I'm using Windows XP Pro SP3 and it works best when I'm on games or doing some programming job.I have tried using 7 before and my opinion is I'm not ready for a change since that windows does not support most of my programming apps. The conclusion is,Windows 7;bad for a programmer, along with its brothers, known as Vista.

One more thing,Windows XP interfaces looks fine to me as I like it simple. But my friend sometimes make it nicer by using Stardock products such as Windows Blinds for skinning and all the thing related to it.

I am watching this discussion as I am looking for new PC. I have XP and everything is fine but if I upgrade to SP3... it goes hay-wire and I take it back and it works great. I don't like constant changing of OS. If it works, don't fix it! But I know I can't buy XP anymore so I have heard better about W7 than Vista.

Actually, your friend is totally mistaken, and the truth is the opposite. 7 is SLOWER than XP on comparable hard, and in fact has know compatibility problems with many software that used to run properly on XP (and a proff of it is that Microsoft itself released a XP virtualization mode for Win7). There are really few programs that run on 7 and not on XP, XP is the most compatible with everything software out there these days. The speed problem is also there, but on modern hard it's not that noticeable (put an I5 with Win7 and it will be as fast as XP on a core2duo), but on not so new PCs Win7 will lag and users will complain. And remember one more thing. It's entirely built on the core of Vista, which is well know for being the worst OS in years (while XP is based on Win200, a profesional version). Windows 7 is nothing more that a gigantic service pack for Vista, with a new name for marketing purposes. Also, it lack of many usefull features that XP has. So, I say that changing XP for 7 is a DOWNGRADE.

I am using windows XP service pack 3 as well, and that's good. I'm sure windows 7 can't be much faster then windows xp on my laptop, 'cuz windows 7 could not be installed in it. LOL:=) I mean, higher edition operation system always means better hardware. Some of my friends gave up windows 7 for some softwares they use frequently are not supported...However, it's true that windows 7 has a much more shining looks and do support some new function which attracts many people.

since win7 was the new OS developed by Microsoft, old PC games does not compatible on it.. therefore, winXp is much better for me. :)

My computer is still used Windows XP and my husband's computer installed Windows 7. I don't think there is a big improvement for Windows 7 and I can't really see it is better than Windows XP. Perhaps some designs seem to be cooler but I pay attention to the function much more. I don't have a plan to change my operating system. I love China

I'm using Windows 7 Professional. I've used XP before and it's very fast, especially the loading time. Windows 7 is a little bit slower, but, Windows 7 has much more stylish features that other OS does not. Take for example the shaking feature, which lets you shake a window to make the other minimized. I thought this was very smart of Microsoft. Windows XP is kind of outdated now so I think you should get a better one. Use the 7. It's a much more reliable OS and it's stylish and the interface's easy to use.

as far as i'm concerned, windows xp is more user friendly, easier to use and so i like it better. maybe i've been using it most exclusively that's why. i've tried windows vista and windows 7 too. vista is frustrating. also softwares i tried to install on both of them didn't work. don't know, maybe they support newer and upgraded softwares only. so it's windows xp for me.

I just love the Windows XP, my husband has Vista on his alptop and my son has Windows & but I still prefer the XP version as I know and understand it so well. I am having some problems with my trusty old desktop and think that it is likely to, be heading for that big computer heap in the sky, but I think I will try and replace it with an XP OS !!

Welcome to Mylot, dibs. True, Windows 7 has a great fashionable looks which XP does not have. Although, I believe there are third party software that could make your xp look like another operating system. Win7 also has a number of features that will give you a whole new computing experience. With regards to your question, which will be the best for you, if you don't have a problem with your hardware specially with the memory capacity and cpu type and speed then I would recommend to go for Win 7. Otherwise go for XP. I have recently installed Win 7 to an Acer laptop with Core 2 CPU (darn I forgot the cpu speed) but with only 1 GB of Memory, I think the performance is quite slow. But I've seen also Win 7 on a computer with a 2 GB memory, it runs smoothly and loads the programs quite fast. I guess you can compare your hardware with the example I gave above. Keep lotting.

Windows xp will always be number one for me. Windows 7 is great but to get your hand on it you would need to buy a new computer. Windows 7 is just xp with greater graphics that is all.

With windows 7, Microsoft, makes a step in frond. Is not the same like Vista that was a step back. All new computers and hardware developers work on this OS now to develop new drivers. In opposite they don't spend much time for drivers that will work for windows XP. Windows XP is a very good OS but is already old and mother micro stops to upgrade it. In my opinion you must consider that technology is going on and operating systems also!!

For me, I prefer Windows7. It is more user friendly and fashionable. Processes are faster than XP. And I love the StickyNotes in Windows7.

Welcome to Mylot! So regarding this topic, I think there are many similar to this, and I'm not sure if this will stay or be deleted. Anyway, let me answer your question. Xp is probably the best yet in terms of compatibility, speed, and practicality, still it could probably lack some essentials that the new OS, windows 7 have, although I'm sure there are always ways around it to resolve those problems. The best part of Xp is it does not require too much from your PC, unlike Windows 7. Of course this could be expected because Windows 7 is made for the new generation PCs. Now, if you want to keep your XP running but want the feel of Windows &, like I said before, there are ways around it, by downloading themes and skins made by brilliant people to enjoy the Windows 7 experience on XP. If you ask me which I would prefer for myself between this two, I'd say though Windows & because it is stable now and developing still, it has good GUIs, and it is something new to explore and discover, something enjoyable. Of course, I have considered with this decision my PC specifications. So I hope I gave something useful here. Happy mylotting, as they say!
