I know everyone uses ym. You met new friends from different countries but you want to know if they are from that country. I want to know if they are really from that country. I want to know where my chatters came from and if they are telling the truth. Do you know how? Tell me and share so that others will know too. I'm not going to hack someone's computer but I just want to know there locations. The end :)

If you can get your "friends" to e-mail you via their Yahoo! mail account. Check the "Received" headers for the originating IP address - refer to the timestamps to locate the first received from IP address. Run a nslookup on the IP address or use your favourite IP to geographic location mapper.

You are correct !! Receiving email from chat buddy is the solution of this matter.
From yahoo mail ip can collect and after collection it can check from ip2location dot com site too.

It depends on how does it work internally. Often, messengers connect the user to the server and the server does the linking, there is no direct user-to-user interaction so you can get the IP.
If you want to try, you may download Wireshark (a network tracer) and watch over the network activity during your chat (and most important during a file transfer). It may show you one of two things: either the Yahoo server IP or the other user IP.

Not exactly true, that's only let see from where that email come. But that's don't account for a dynamic IP address. If you want to check at any time, you need a mail everytime. And your victim would only need to reset the modem after sending for being covered again.

I don't think you are able to get other peoples' ip address through Yahoo Messenger because that is private.
