Will you leave if someone doesn't start on time?

I do. I really dislike going to a meeting to find that they are very lax about starting on time. I want them to start when they say they are going to start! I have walked out of church services that hadn't started and it has been 15 minutes or so since they were supposed to start. It is so disrespectful of people's time and effort to be that late. You know if it's only a minute or two no big deal, I don't like it, but I can give 'em that, but 15 minutes?? I'm outa here!

It depends on the appointment. If it's just a meeting of some sort, not that important, i'll walk out of it if it starts late. If it's a job offer from a big company, hell, i'll wait half a day for that. I've waited at most 3 hours for a job offer before.

Yeah, you got a point there! Although if it was a sign of mishandling time and all I'm not sure I'd want to work for a company that cannot do things orderly!

The time I waited, they were hiring a large number of applicants that's why it took so long for my job offer. They apologized so it was all good.

I really hate just sitting places when I don't have anything to do. Thankfully I now have a phone that I can get on line with and at least do something if I have to wait!

I think it depends. If I've spent money on it, I will wait. If I had to drive a good distance to participate, I'll wait. If it's something I'm really excited to do, I'll wait. I may not ever come back after that though!

I'm with you on the never coming back thing! lol! It does really depend on the nature of the activity somewhat. I was at a race Saturday that started late - but they at least announced it and let us know rather than us standing out in the cold not knowing!

Hello macdingolinger, I can wait for sometime, but i believe there is a limit for each of us. I have a little patience to wait, but it can get annoying if it's too long. Good for you, you seem to be quite punctual and want everything in time.

Yeah, probably to a fault. But I think if we say we are going to do something at a certain time then we should!

I do realize if I lived somewhere else I would have to make some major adjustments. I know all about Filipino time and CPT!

I don't know why, I guess I'm just patient, but I usually don't leave when I'm meeting up with someone especially when that person have confirmed that he or she will arrive though late. I have experienced waiting for someone for almost two hours. I got annoyed of course, but I still didn't leave. I talked to her about how I felt. I told her how long I've been waiting, etc. just to be honest with her but I talked to her in a good manner. I don't like being late so I expect others will also be on time when meeting up with me. I hope I won't experience that again. =)

So what did you do for like 2 hours? I hope you had your computer or a book so that the time wasn't completely wasted!

Yes. I don't think that is right either. I have actually gotton up after 20 or so minutes and left for the same reason. I think it is very disrespectful, because people have schedules also, and they are to be changed around in ordr to make the schedules.

I think if you're going to start at 10 let everyone know, but if you're going to wait until 10:15 tell everyone.. shoot! i can make a few more pennies here on mylot in that amount of time! lol!

I agree with you, I would have walked out as well. I would think it is also disrespectful of people's time as well. My biggest problem is when you are at the doctor's office. Why is it that doctors are ALWAYS running late. Is it a prerequisite for the job? If you have been in practice for a while, you know how long it will take to do rounds in the hospital in the morning (if your doctor even does that). Not to mention, you need to schedule more time in between appointments for those long winded patients that ask way too many questions. I can't stand having say a 10:00 doctor appointment, and I don't even get seen until after 11:00 a.m. - now that is disrespectful to me.

I myself would leave too. Especially when I'm busy and just try to accomodate that meeting. It is so hard to manage busy time, it will surely had a domino effect if you're a busy person. And people should consider punctuality for this matter. For sure no one would want to ruin their day so they should know how to respect others.

I think it's very important to respect people's time. IF someone doesn't how can I expect that they will respect anything else concerning me?

Dear Macdingolinger... I had my share of being disgruntled with late comers as I am always punctual. I put high respect on other's people time whether it be a calltime for vacation getaway, or whether it be office or church service. You so mentioned here that yours had something to do with church service... i bear that all the time, usually we have to wait for more minutes till we come up with a quorum. I wish we didnt have to wait, right? So what if it is church service and one is giving his service for free... the mere fact that one commits to church service means that they have to abide with the rules and regulations. It doesnt mean that if you are doing your work for free means it gives you to come on your free time... It is so unfair... Professionalism should also be imbibed in voluntary work.

Oh boy, don't get me started on that one! I volunteered for about two and a half years at a church full time. I was always punctual and treated as if it were a job I was getting paid for - the same amount of professionalism and honesty! I couldn't agree with you more!

Hi macdingolinger! I do not leave though, may be my patience is long with this matter, I would really want to get the function/date completed even if I will have to wait. Also, I believe in the old adage: better late than never.. There might be a good reason behind the lateness :-)

Sometimes there is a good reason. But in general I have found that there is not. I think I can give grace for those times when someone has a flat or an emergency on the way and things like that. I am just talking about like a regular church service or something and I'm the visitor who showed up like a fool on time! Only to sit for 15 or 20 minutes because they are not ready to start! Those are the times I leave!
