Is truth the best medicine at work? The price of honesty in some places especially your place of work can be very grave. 35% of people fear that they might lose thir job if they tell their employer about an ongoing illness. I think the truth about workplace illnesses whatever the legal safeguards, is that it remains a judgemental call.
There are rights we need to excersice when situations like this arises. what do you think folks?

yes they are afraid bcs in some places they dont want to hire people that are sick. like some pregnant women that also dont tell bcs they are afraid to dont find a job. i guess they just dont tell bcs sometimes dont have other way. imagine someone that is so sick that needs money for medicines and treatments and if the company finds out fire them. how can they fix their health problems? i dont judge those people bcs we dont know what we would do in their places. even we should always say the truth the reality is that in most part of the companies if someone is sick they will fire them

Although it is illegal for an employer to fire an employee simply because of a health issue. I do believe they become afraid due to ignorance of the condition. Some find reasons to make up excuses and get around the legalities and get rid of the employees.
So as my suggestion is that if the illness is not something apparent, obvious and or something you need continual time off, that we do not speak of it at work as with many people out in the world today some people are really horrible.

I fully support the truth always but truth always has a price to pay. World has changed alot and now a days peoples dont feel it odd to practice lie in day to day jobs. If you are supporting truth you will suffer for a while and no one wants to be in trouble.

I think personal things should be left personal. I also think that ethics and self preservation lend into it too. Honesty is always the best policy BUT I think a person's privacy should be respected too and if a company I work for starts incroaching on that then I would have to give it some serious thought.

Truth may not be palatable in some situations. Have you heard of such phrases like: Silence is Golden? To Tell someone a white lie? Yes, it is sometimes best not to talk about anything at all which you think may provoke people. Keep secrets to yourself if telling them hurts others.

There is always a fear of losing the job and if someone is unable to do their job, then there are chances that their employers are going to replace them with someone who can. That is a very real fear. Especially with the way that the economy is these days. If you are unwilling or unable to do your job, then that's fine, there are about three people willing to take your place. Maybe even more.
Some employers may be a bit more sympathetic to their employees. However for the most part employers look at business first and the needs of the employees second. It is harsh granted, but it is true. Therefore, illnesses are not reported out of fair. I think that people are afraid to tell the truth, because the workplace is one of the few places where in certain circumstances, the truth can be a very bad thing.

In workplaces, we can't keep telling the truth or we won't last for a month. We have to constantly lie to keep the job. I'm not talking about big lies like shaving off the shares of e certain company. I'm talking about small necessary lies to keep our jobs.

We always seek the truth. I do believe that we should talk less if we do not like to discuss a certain topic or we do not want to explain something. Not saying anything does not necessarily means we are dishonest, it is just we don't like to tackle certain events or happenings in our life. If it will not endanger or affect the relationship and performance of a work in progress then we can stay quiet. We owe it to ourself and also for the safety of others if we have certain problems that needs attention like a medical condition. If we try to stay quiet and maintain a low profile and don't like to talk much of our daily life. We just can make it like that or else we should tell the management if there is a trouble in our performance or not. Just my thoughts about this...

its based on what kind of working environment you're in. If you're in a healthy environment with positive competition and open minded employer and upper management, be truthful will help the growing of the company and as well as yourself. Otherwise, hide your true self as It'll be your grave if you speak something wrong or somehow you offended someone by your words. Be extra careful!
