How reliable is the postal service?

India

These days less and less people are using the post office for sending letters, they prefer the private couriers. Earlier when the postman came to deliver the mail, I used to see several bagful of letters, parcels etc. But now it is just few letters which he holds in his hands. He does not wear a uniform, though he is provided by the department. Sometimes letters take months to reach their destination, the acknowledge receipts against money orders or letters sent under registered covers never come back to you. What is the scene in your place, how much reliable the postal service is? Which one you prefer post office or private couriers?Professor

Hello there, These days I dont think the postal service is very reliable. For the simple reason, when checking my mail everyday, you can guarantee, I have someone who lives down the streets mail in my nail box. Because Im honest, I always deliver the mail to the rightful address. Thanks.

I'm not at all fond of the post office here and that really is a sad thing considering the vast majority of my aunts and uncles are employeed by the post office. Since my husband and I moved into our house about a year and a half ago, we've only mailed things out a couple of times and of those times, over 50% of the stuff that I've mailed has been returned to us destroyed. That said, I tend to go with UPS or FedEx as much as possible because of the fact that their shipping is much more dependable.

Here in the U.S., fairly reliable. It's been reliable for me. I rarely complain about the postal service.

Most of the time the postal service is reliable here. Even if it is just a standard mail, it can be delivered without problems. If you want to receive it as soon as possible, then you can choose express post. Sometimes you can just get it for half a day. I love China

hi professor, i hear a lot of complaints but based on my experience, i have no complaints. i get parcels with everything intact, although it comes much later than if one sends in a courier. unless if i am in a hurry and wanting a very fast reply, i send via the post office. it is much lesser in cost yet still reliable. have a nice day. ann

Postal Truck - The vehicle of incompetence.
The postal service around these parts just seems to be getting worse with each passing year. And postal charges just seem to be going up. If there were not certain services that I needed to utilize through the mail, as opposed to over the Internet, I would have given up the Postal Service years and years ago, I'll tell you that. At one time they were decent. Then they really got bad about four or five years ago. Perhaps even further back. Perhaps they were always bad and I did not quite notice it until I actually had to use it as an adult. Still it is not fun times. Things that were suppose to arrive a couple of days later, might come weeks later or not at for the worst case scenario. So I am not pleased with the Postal Service. I am not pleased at all.

I have stopped using the regular post long back. It is much faster and safer to send the letters / parcels through a courier. It may cost a little extra but then not so much more too. I have seen that letters sent through post take a very long time and it may reach after the time is over and the work is done. Hence no point is sending the letter.

I prefer the private couriers with my parcels nowadays because it is faster and safer than the government postal service. Using private couriers are much safer and more trustworthy. A friend of mine sent me a present two weeks ago and it should have arrived last week but the parcel hasn't been delivered until now. And he has been continuously sending me post cards from last week and none of them has arrived until now. So how can i trust the post office with this kind of service?

I hate the postal service here. Last week, I received a small parcel - it wasn't anything important, just a complimentary CD and a book I got from an order I placed online. Because the delivery was international, I didn't get it at home, I had to go down to the postal office to retrieve it, and the whole deal took about an hour and a half. The person who was in front of me in line was arguing about some taxes she was supposed to pay, and this took forever. On the other hand, everything I order using a private courier company arrives safely at my door. So I hope the post reforms quickly, because otherwise it's doomed.

It's really very slow poor service. Postal service is not much patronized now a days, I personally prefer courier because my letter or whatever I'm sending get's to the point of destination, at least at my expected time. And people nowadays even think, postal offices are no longer existing. The cheap price of postal service perhaps made it compromise it's service. Don't you think prof?
