Has anyone of you guys felt on one moment(or more) of your working life, that you are doing things that are not worth of what you're paid for? I am an employee and I love my job. But I always feel like I do not get what I should be paid for. My company does not give benefits as much as other companies give to their employees. Professionals on my field are known to earn bucks of money in this career. My friends who have jobs like mine earn double of what I earn even if I know Im better than them. How bout you guys? Any experience like that?

hi florencia..
I am a professor here in india and this is one of the top ten profession by salary in india. I joined on my job on 2005 and at that time we were bound for a probational period of two years. At that time we get almost 20% salary of total amount. Later after some objection and protest the government declared to give the 100% salary to any new employee. But, till that decision my two years were already over and it had made me a great looser.
Have a nice day.

That was awful. Didn't you have anything to get? Only the new employees get 100% of the salary? How about those who are long in years of service? That's hard. Veterans should also be given privileges.

Hi Florencia,
Sometimes I do feel like you do when it comes to my pay. I actually can't complain a lot because I've been in the same company for years and I actually am getting good pay for the type of job it is...store clerk. Still, it's been a long long long time since I've gotten a raise. I think if I were in your spot then I would keep my eyes out for a better paying job and then maybe make a switch.

Thanks for the response sid. Yeah you're right. I really have to find another good paying company for my job. But I'm hesitant right now because it is my first job and I want to have a good experience. I don't want my first job to be a very short one, because I believe firsts are special.

Worth is not counted only on the job you are doing. It is also counted on what you volunteer to do outside your regular job. It shows initiative. If you whine about your job at work, believe me, it gets back to the bosses and they are not amused.
I was director of personnel at three companies. Never was a person promoted or given an increase just because they did the job they were hired for. Management looks at what you can do outside of your current duties and how willing you are to do it. Your attitude plays a huge part in whether you go up the ladder or stay on the bottom rung.
Further down, you said this was your first job. Did you really expect to be given top pay when you have no experience?
I hired a young man to drive a truck for a computer company. He sounded as though he would eventually be a person to consider for better positions, right up until he confronted me a whole two weeks after being hired. He wanted an increase in pay and a promotion. He was turned down on both, counseled that no one got a promotion after a mere two weeks. He quit. No one considered his leaving to be a loss for the company. A few weeks later he called because he had not been hired anywhere else and asked for his job back. It was filled.
If your company offers many avenues for going up, your best tactic is to find out what is needed for the next rung of the ladder and start volunteering to help in any way you can to learn the job. When promotion time comes around, they will look at your record first.
Quitting is what losers do when the going gets tough. It takes a real player to stay through the tough times and strive for the highest position in the company.
You agreed to your pay when you took the job; no one twisted your arm. So, stop griping and get busy being a real asset to the company that gave you a chance.

Well, yeah. Entry level of this job on other companies is more than of what I currently earn. I'm not actually griping or anything like that. I'm just hoping for some considerations. My boss said that I'm fresh grad anyways so there's no need for me to be paid much. And i don't know. I guess I'll just stick with the company, learn more, grow, and when I have enough experienced, I'll find another job that would fit me and make me really happy. Thank you for the response though.

try to ask your human resource management about the salary and benefits if your not sure that you are getting the right payment for your job.And if you hesitate try to ask others ...or better yet resigned and find a better one...

That's actually the problem, we have no benefits in the company other than health insurance. But aside from that, there's no other else. It's cruel.

You should stay with this job little bit more and at least earn experience from this company, build your skills, improve your work capability and after that go and look for a company that can satisfy your needs.keep switching companies until you find the best company to work with, which also provide you best facility.

Yeah. I have thought of that also. But there's pros and cons with my situation.
Pros:
1. This is my first job so I want it to last for few more years.
2. The growth opportunity in this company is big.
Cons:
1. I have a very low salary, not even meeting the minimum wage for this field.
2. I'll be going through a lot of harships to grow.
hehe . :)

I also have the same experience, imagine in my previous job I am doing the job of a 3 or more position at the same time but I am being paid for a minimum rate, the machine operator earn more than me. In my present job, I also experience the same thing, we are working 1 1/2 years now but we will have the salary increase this December. It takes about 9 months before we can get the increase that we should get nine months ago. I also did multiple jobs and I do field work.

grab any and all opportunities that come your way
and as you build up the foundation for your success, be discriminating and choose the ones that yield more profits for you when calculated against time and energy (or effort exerted)to finish the job

The feeling of being underpaid is always there. When we hear others getting huge pay checks we always feel that we are being underpaid and do not get many benefits. I too have recently started feeling that I am being underpaid, speically when I hear the new commers and freshers getting paid more than me. But then I think aboutit and remember the grass is always greener on the other side. Hence just keep quite about it.

Not only you but every other employee feels the same as you are feeling now. Now me may be a assistant or he may be a senior manager. Everybody does have the same feeling in some or the other way. It only depends on us that how we take things.
I am no abnormal and I really feel I am paid very less and moreover in the current company where I am working now, I am wasting my talent because I am here doing a monotonous kind of a job. My ability is far more than than what I am doing right now. If a situation comes when you are not willing to work that you should change your job. Go at a place where you will be paid higher. I am now doing the same. I am changing my job next month. Here I just get my minimum standards pay like others in my company. A very less, higher level, employees are given the benefits. I had to wait for a better opportunity, and finally I have got one. I searched for last four months and I got it now. Best of Luck to you too.

How about starting your own, when i was an office worker i understand how the company works, what are the departments involved etc., then i involved with people in the same market. Surely we cant start as an empire since we can start small and cheap thats what to choose...afterall you are going to do the same work. All you need is to register a company or your business first.

Go out and find other job opportunities. Your educational attainment as well as your school sometimes matter, if you are no longer happy with the company, just don't force yourself to work for that company.

If you really love your job at some level it does matter how much you are paid. If you start to ask yourself questions, maybe it means that you do not like your occupation enough to not care.
It happened to me to be in this position; but at that time I did not especially experience it as bad, because I really appreciated the team I was working with, and the work was simple and not too boring.
