Help a brother out.

I really want a piece of the freelance writing action, but I have no idea how to start. I went to apply online at a few "how-to" places and know what is required of me. I remember, from highschool, the basic structure of an essay, but I don't even know if that is the structure I am supposed to be following. I am well worded but I lack focus. I can be too poetic and I have troubles finding a good topic. I have thought about doing research and creating my own article from my findings, but I am afraid of plagiarism. How far is too far in regards to plagiarism? Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated!!! =)

Hi foofermen, Different sites have different requirements regarding the structure of the content they allow you to publish. If you're completely new at this, I'd say it's better to start with Triond, where you can publish pretty much anything (including poetry) as long as it's original content and has good grammar. Bukisa is also good for beginners, they allow you to re-publish articles, as long as they're yours, and pretty much the only requirement is that each of them should have at least 250 words. Once you build up some confidence, you can move to some more restrictive (and higher paying) sites like Associated Content or InfoBarrel. As for plagiarism, as long as there's no intent (meaning that you didn't copy/paste entire paragraphs from somebody else, without quoting the source), you don't have to worry too much. You can use PlagiarismChecker.com, to be sure, but let's be honest, there so much content both online and offline, and we all read so much, it's impossible not to borrow an idea or a twist of a phrase from someone else.

Thank you! =) I am going to do a little research on these sites, I am always very thorough in that aspect. I will come back later after reviewing all of my options and perhaps ask some questions. Thank you again, this is really very helpful =)

You're welcome, get back to me if you have more questions, you know where to find me :) Onyxe121 also mentioned some very good suggestions, you can try all of them and see what suits you best. Read their terms carefully, there are minor differences - some accept links in your articles, some don't, some accept only informative, how-to articles, on others you can publish anything... There are also tiny details that make the difference for me - how I get along with their text editors, how easy it is for me to insert pictures, how these sites react to search engines... you'll figure it out, it's not rocked science, and the communities of writers are very helpful everywhere.
