Odesk- is this site legit? help concerning work available

Friends I want to know if this website Odesk is legit? I have two questions concerning this site.
First I just joined this site and when I applied for a job, the employer replied me with the work and I am asked to download a software for that work from unknown site and then start working. Is it safe downloading the software?
Second now when I have checked my email, I saw the employer's email which I got at odesk but I also got an email from odesk saying that my application for that employer's work was cancelled because he violated the odesk term. I am confused as I didnt get any notification in my odesk aonbox. SO can you help me what should I do, start working for the employer or not because of odesk notification.
Please can any odesk member can help me?

You know i've been at odesk before ans i am a member of that site two years ago. But recently i stop working with them for m own reasons why. Conflict to my work. That site is safe and most of my friends working in O desk and they get their payout regularly. To download the software odesk can ask i don't know. Please try to check well the legitimate odesk in your mails. You know at today's trend there are many false around the net. Verify well. Notification look inside your odesk and if has then its true. I hope this will make you at least got some info even i'm not hundred percent sure.

i'm also a member of odesk for few months now but i wasn't able to get job from them coz non of those listed in the site right now that suits my interest. i already downloaded the software and it doesn't cause any harm on my computer. the purpose of that software is for odesk to monitor the contractors works.

Odesk is a definitely a legitimate site. I write reviews about legitimate work from home opportunities and also do freelance work for Odesk and Fiverr. The software that you need to download is used so they could track the amount of hours that you spent working on the project. Its safe to download.

Odesk is legit. But don't take risk by doing a suspended members work. Because, the employer has no connection with Odesk now. If you work independently for the man than there is more chances that he would not pay you for some reasons.
Do you know how freelance site works?
It is a medium and nobody can cheat you if you work within the system. Odesk use Escrow, means it is a fund bank where you can see the amount which is already given by the employer for the project. Once you complete any work the Escrow releases the amount to your account and you get the amount without any difficulty.
