Do you use paper plates and cups on a daily basis?

I just thought of this as I need to reload my dishwasher. Do you use the paper cups and plates everyday to keep from washing dishes? My daughter does but I hardly ever buy them. I wash dishes either by hand or in the dishwasher. If everyone would do this how much do you think it would cut down on land fills and garbage?

lol.. that would sound expensive. imagine you are spending everyday? on the other hand it is not good to the environment. why? despite the fact that these are biodegradable, you are still generating a lot of garbage. thus, pollution prevails.

Thank you markleob I agree with you. Unless like the earlier reply she has a water problem and can't wash them everyday. Then I could understand it. Yes I think you are right that is an expense! Thanks for replying.

Oh yes for the parties. I like to get decorated ones for the holidays especially for the desserts. And I used paper plates when we had the open houses and were serving up to 75 or more. Thanks!

i do not use paper plates and cups often. Althrough, using these staffs can save time to do other things, in my opinion, it is waste to use them. Of course, when you have a party, i think you should use paper plates and cups for everyone health and avoiding a lot of works of washing. plus, i like washing dishes very much. when i finished, i have a sence of accomplishment.

Very good point. Yes I think you are right about the party and cutting down on he germs. Although the dishwasher does a good job of that. Still who wants a party and a sink full of dirty dishes afterwards or even having enough dishes to go around. Thanks for your reply!

I do most of the dishes in our home, most of the time. So I do use paper products once in a while. There are just times I tire of the whole "time to do the dishes" routine.

I understand! I do the dishes too. Thankful for the dishwasher too. Kids have all growed up and left home now, and it is just husband and me and I have looked at the paper plates and thought about it but then the cost and that turned me off! Thanks for your reply!

I use paper plates and cups on occasion. i usually don't make a habit of it. i do have family members who use paper plates daily. it is just more convenient for them to do so.

almost 100% to cut down garbage on landfills. besides you can save money too! we used to have paper plates & cups because of lazy way to wash dishes but then we realize how much we spend everytime and the garbage to throw.

I do use paper plates not paper cups. I don't use them all the time. I only really use them for hamburgers or something small like that. I mostly use regular dishes and I don't mind cleaning.

Thank you for replying. I use the small dessert plates for the sandwiches. WE don't do them often and sometimes don't use a plate for them if we do.

No, I do not use paper plates often at all. I consider glasses and plates to be the easiest part of the dishes so that would be pointless. A place I personally could cut down would be on paper towels.

You are right they are the easiest to wash. Oh I have eliminated the paper towels! I buy these paper???towels in a box called "Rags in a Box" I get mine at Sam's Club but I think they have them in Wal Mart too. They are in the automotive section, and I use them. They are much heavier then a paper towel and I drain my foods on them, like bacon (that I am not suppose to eat) and the foods that I deep fry (also not suppose to eat them!) I use them to clean with, everything....then I throw them in the WASHER and wash and dry them, fold them and reuse them 2 or 3 times before I throw them away! If I have something really yucky to clean up then I throw them away. But they wash and dry just fine! They clean great. My husband always used them in the garage and I would 'steal' them so he finally just bought me my own box!!! If you can find them give them a try. If your like me you will never go back to regular paper towels again! Thanks for responding.

I was trying to buy plastic containers to give away food in and my husband suggested the plates and they were cheaper so that was what I used them for. Especially the pretty decorated ones for holidays. My mother n law use to wash dishes every morning because it helped the arthritus in her hands. Have a nice day...thanks for replying!

I only use paper cups when there are many guests at home, because I don't have enough glasses, paper cups are convenient but not environment friendly, we should not use it frequently

I have ran into that with the plates. If I had all of our family here I have to give the kids little dessert plates to go around! I do have enough glasses but this is probably because they mostly bring their own drinks so there is no need for them. Thanks for responding.

I think it is not a good idea that we depend on paper cups and plates just because we get tired of washing dishes. It is not an economical approach of doing things. In this era where everybody needs to cut down costs, I guess keeping a good set of plates and mugs would be the best sollution. As simple as washing dishes on a daily basis would save enough money to take care of other expenses. This has brought me into realization that man's personal financial freedom is such difficult to achieve because of negligent to pay attention to small things. I believe that man should start thinking of things that would make life easy and yet not creating any problem on the financial side. The amount of convenience you are entitled is commensurate to the income you are currently earning. You made a good point about the environmental implications of depending on paper cups and plates. Even if they are recyclable the amount of energy wasted on it to bring it to usable form should be considered. I hope I have imparted sensible ideas. Happy mylotting!

I really liked your response. Wonderful job. There are special occasions when it is ok and like having the parties with lots of people attending. Don't want to spend eternity washing dishes. But for every single day. I can't see it. Thank you for responding. Beautiful job.

Although most of these paper plates and cups are recyclable, I think people still throw them out in the garbage. I've been in a few parties where I literally saw people throwing these disposable plates and cups along with their left over food. Which actually defeats the purpose of making these recyclable. And this contribute to the growth of land fills. I don't use them on a daily basis.

HI bounce yes you are right they don't get recycled. I hostess a fellowship hour at our church once a week and I buy paper plates and cups for that and we throw them away. But for at home use, I just use the real thing. Thanks for responding.

They might be recyclable but I wonder how many really scrape and wash them so they can be recycled? Thanks for responding.

No. That's too expensive I only use this occasionally. I think its not practical in life do do that. Besides that shows that a certain person is so lazy so that she could not was her wash her dishes. For so many years I have not heard of somebody doing this since washing dishes is a routine work. I suggest better if she get somebody to wash dishes for her and get paid if she could not do the washing anymore rather than spend the just through it away after using.

Hi Christmas, I don't have a dishwasher. I AM the dishwasher. I use and wash my dishes by hand. I don't mind as I've been doing it since I was a little kid. I keep a thing of paper plates on hand that I buy from the dollar store. About the only time they get used is if my daughters and grandchildren all come over. Even then, depending on what we are having, we quite often just use the regular dishes. I can't imagine using paper plates on a regular basis but I know a lot of people do.

My middle does all the time. But the rest of us don't. Yes even when we have company which isn't very often we use regular plates. But I am thankful for the dishwasher! Thanks for responding.

No I use either porcelain or plastic plates and cups. Disposable ones are used only in parties. Yea I agree with you. Cutting down on disposable utensils will reduce the amount of spaces required for landfills.

I don't own a dishwasher and must wash everything by hand. It's a bit tiring and sometimes depressing (because it never ends). I don't use paper plates or cups because I don't want to take out the garbage more often. I also don't have kids, though. My older sister uses paper plates and cups but they're a family of 5 and that'll make a lot of dirty dishes to wash by hand. When I was younger we used paper plates and a mug to use all day. When we got older my mom stopped buying them and we started washing the dishes ourselves.

That is very interesting. I raised 5 kids, I couldn't afford to buy paper plates and cups all the time. The kids learned how to wash dishes and we used the dishwasher. My dishwasher quit for awhile and I had to wash all the dishes by hand and still there are some things that no matter how hard you try they don't fit. Thank you for replying.

Good for you!! I know it is a convience but it does make a lot of unnecessary garbage, unless there is a real reason for it. Thank you for responding.

Nope. Not on a daily basis. Paper plates/ plastic cups add up to too much garbage. And besides, eating on a plate is way better. We only use disposable cups and plates very seldom. Usually when we have occasions where we need to feed lots of people, we make use of them to relieve us from too much stress in preparations.

When I had my kids open houses for graduations and I was serving about 75 people yes we had paper plates and cups! I don't have that many plates and cups!!! Also when I was having the family dinners I did too but that was more for convience. Now my oldest does all our meals and she is like me and uses real plates and cups. Thank you for responding!

I use regular plates, utensils and cups. I run my dishwasher about 3 times a week. I wish my school would stop using plastic utensils, and forcing the students to take food that they are not going to eat.

Your school makes you take food even if you are not going to eat it? I thought they quit doing that. I still remember when I was in first or second grade and they served us ravoli and I didn't like it. My teacher made me stay in from noon recess until I ate it. I never did eat it but I missed my whole recess and I was mad! That was half of eternity ago. I see our schools now waste so much food cause the kids don't eat. I have ran my dishwasher as much as 5 times in one day but it is because I love to cook and bake. I run it every day when it is just a regular day. Thak you for replying.
