In England, one lady caused a car accident was put behind in her second year right now. She didn't drink nor under the influence of drugs. The police simply found out that she was sending out more than 10 text messages when the accident happen. So, do you think people should be behind bar who recklessly cause an auto accident because of texting? It sounds a little bit severely over Drunk and Drive, but it could be a decent punishment. So, why not wait until you stop the car, and then text whatever you want.

I think that they should be put behind bars, or at least fined. As you said, why can't they text after or even before driving? It takes attention off the road, where anything can happen, and most people's reaction time decreases if you text and drive.

Maybe a minor prison penalty could be a good idea, this mindless madness that texting and driving is is much worse than talking on the phone wile driving, recent studies have shown that talking to other passangers has the same distracting effect on the brain, but it's still better not to

Texting while driving is illegal where I live, but I definitely think it needs to be enforced more with harsher punishments! Whenever I'm a passenger in a car on a long trip, I look out my window and watch other drivers... I've lost count of the number of people I've seen texting while driving!!! It's so dangerous!!!!!!

Once I saw a lady, her eyes on her smartphone, and her hands was handling the steering wheel. She look up and down, and I just don't understand how she manage to multitasking while driving like that. Pretty amazing.

No, I don't think they should be put behind bars - unless they cause an accident or something by it. I agree with them giving out tickets, though, because 99% of people are DISTRACTED DRIVERS when they text. However I know some people who can text without even looking at their phone's screen, in which case it seems unfair to punish the people who can multi-task efficiently and without distraction. But eh, what can you do?

This is certainly a bad habit, they should be punished for such action, may not be put behind the bar for the first time, a fine may be enough, but if this continues, they should be jailed..
Thank you so much for this timely discussion.
Professor. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.
God bless you. Welcome always.

People who text and drive should be locked up. How can you text and drive at the same time and put yourself not to mention other peoples lives in danger. A lot of peoples lives have been crushed by this. I think this texting and driving is a disease, people should get help before it's to late.

of course NOT.. driving while texting it's a cause of accident.. same as your driving in the influence of L****r .. i agree that people texting while driving should put behind bars...for people who caught Texting While Driving should file a criminal case.

It's illegal to talk on your cellphone let alone text while driving here but I still see people doing it even though it's against the law. It's just sad that this is not being enforced enough. But I seriously think that some time behind bars for causing an accident while texting and driving is appropriate. It's just as bad as a person driving drunk. I believe that when a person is driving they should just be concentrating on the driving and nothing else.

It's really foolish to text while driving. Yes, people should be put behind bars for causing accidents from texting, behind the wheel. Can they not wait, or at least text at the traffic signal for goodness sakes, if only they had something that important to text.

Its harsh but it needs to be implemented as this causes loss of lives. Its already killing people, and killing is a crime. People should not text while driving as it is already COMMONSENSE! how can you focus on the street when your eyes is on something else? A person should STOP and pull over if they want to text a very important thing. How I wish that rule is implemented here in the Philippines as well.:) same as texting while crossing the street!

It's the result of what she did that put her behind bars and not really the texting. Even though using our mobile phones is illegal in most countries, no one is put behind bars if they don't cause serious damage. One shall only receive a reprimand and the penalty is just a fine but not putting the person behind bars. However, if such would cause a serious accident then it's another story because then you'll be charged of the more serious crime like reckless imprudence resulting to homicide or serious physical injury, or damage to property thing.

Texting and driving don't mix. If people have four pairs of eyes and hands it would be a more feasible undertaking. It must only be done while parked on a safe place, away from the mainstream traffic. Even speaking on the phone while driving takes a big percentage in the driving concentration and may lead to accidents that may have been avoided in matter of a split second reaction, time spent on the phone.

I think they should just be fined as a first warning and then if they do it again then put them behind bars as a lesson well learned. I see alot of ppl texting and riving and still talking on the phone while driving. If someone text me I always wait til I'm stopped somewhere to even reply back to them. But if I need to call someone then i'll pull over and call them if it's important. If its not then i'll wait til I get to my destination before I make any calls or text. There's so many people out there that don't pay attention to the road because of cell phone abuse.

I think that it is really dangerous to text while you are driving, many accidents are caused by people who use their phones while they are driving. The rules in my ountry are not very strict and I think that they ought to change them. Talking on the phone and texting are both dangerous, but I think that texting is even worse than talking because you have to find the right keys and you have to look at the phone while you are writing. I have a friend who does it, and he usually says that he is a great driver and that he can handle both things, but I think it is far too dangerous

Here where I live it is against law as well to text and or use the cell phone. From what I understand they are trying to enforce that a cellphone cannot even be turned on while we are in a car.
I find it a nuisance really as to what could be so important that it can't simply wait a few minutes until you park the car and or make it home. Just about 3 months ago a 29 year old plastic surgeon killed himself as he sending out a tweet.
What on earth could be so important to him that he ended his life over.
