Worth waiting seven years to clear your credit?

Your broke, can not afford to pay your credit card debt, would you just stop paying for your credit cards and just wait seven years to clear? Or would you pay the minimum payment for the rest of your life until you feel like the economy is doing much better and you actually have money? Would you save that minimum pay and put it to your savings so if the economy gets worse!!! would you at least have money for food?

i have always been told by my mom never to have a credit card if i dont want to have any problem. well, i never had one. but my friends they had few and they decided not to pay. i asked them if it wont bring them to jail or something they said it wont. but i think that is scary not to pay it.
