Rain Is Dangerous!

I live in an apartment on the third floor. The stairs up to my apartment are wooden and are outside. When it rains they get really slippery! I've even fallen down the stairs in the rain before! I hurt my back pretty badly. My neighbors have also slipped and fallen down the stairs in the rain before! It rained a lot today, so now I'm very nervous to go downstairs! I walk down the stairs very slowly and cautiously! I just hope the stairs don't get icy this winter! That'd be even more dangerous!

Hi trickiwoo, When you have problems with the staircase you should be careful while walking down. And yes the problem seems to be with the staircase and not with the rain. If it is available try to use lift and if not shift to a different apartment. I feel the staircases are too narrow for their use.

There are no lifts in the apartment... only stairs! And we had to be put on a long waiting list to get our current apartment! There aren't any other ones available to move to!

Seems you have no other options at present. Now it is advisable that you are careful while walking down the staircases. Good luck...

Hello there, You have a seepage problem ? Get it fixed soon then. People visiting the house will have a lot of problem coz they might not be aware of the problem and just step on to the stairs and have lots of problems. You better get that fixed. And take care.

I don't own the place... I just rent. So I can't fix it. It's up to the complex to fix. And there's nothing really wrong... the stairs work fine... they just get slippery whenever it rains because they're outside. So the owners of the place aren't in any hurry to make it better!

Yes, weather conditions make things very difficult and very dangerous in diffeent ways. One has to be very careful. Where I live, there can be heavy snow fall and storm often, making things very dangerous. Driving a car on the sone-covered roads and icy conditions are really extremely dangerous.

Luckily it doesn't snow or ice too much here... but when it does, it's scary and dangerous!!! But everything pretty much shuts down and there isn't really a reason for me to go anywhere!

Sounds like the problem is the stairs, not the rain! Seems like enough people are having problems that you can persuade the right person to install foot grips on the steps? Or you can take the fashionable approach and slide down the hand rail :-)

Foot grips would be nice, but I don't think it's a high priority for our complex. The complex has over 30 separate buildings, and each of the buildings have 2 staircases (one in the front and one in the back) So that's a lot of stairs and a lot of foot grips they'd need to install... which would cost them a lot of money! And in this economy they're having a lot of trouble renting the places out, so they're not making a lot of money...
