The other day I was watched an episode of 'Rookie Blue' and in this episode two of the rookies had to help a pregnant woman give birth because she didn't want to go to the hospital. She had specifically arranged for a home birthing because she has a disorder called "Agoraphobia", fear of open spaces and crowds. This is not the first time that I have watch some show or movie portraying someone with this specific fear. I can not help wondering how these people coupe with their fear and how one can help them. I know that someone who has "Agoraphobia" also feels depressed and are anxious. I know how difficult it is for clinical depressed people, my sister-in-law uffers from this condition. Do you know anyone who suffers from "Agoraphobia"? Do you talk about it? Can you help that sufferer?

I have heard about the fear on movies .But i have never saw or meet people who has "Agoraphobia".To my mind ,these people need more communication with their family and friends .Moreover ,phychologists may give them a hand to alleviat their horror .Anyway ,people ought to respect and care about them .

I agree, one must respect and care for them. Hopefully a psychologist will be able to help, but this is usually a long term illness so family and friends should also be able to help, if only by knowing how to act around a agoraphobia sufferer.

I know some people who're afraid to hang out in public. They just force themselves whenever there's an important appointment. They don't get near cafeterias, don't use elevators too often, basically they stay away from crowded places.
