There have been a lot of talking and debate who is the best guitarist in metal world. Talking about the best, the likes of Adrian Smith, Kirk Hammet, Dave Mustaine, Marty Friedman etc.. come out to our minds. But in your opinion, who is the most under-rated guitarist in metal music? The guitarist that wasn't given credit because of their partner.
For me it is Michael Weikath of Helloween. Weikath have been with Helloween since it was formed. But of course he was outshine by his partners. Hansen, Gropkuff and Gerstner. Weikath should be that bad right? He always come out with a good double harmonic guitar together with his partner and he didn't look uncomfortable when playing solo. So I think he is a very good guitarist but just been outshine by his partner.
Who is in your mind?

Since I've listened a lot to Ronnie James Dio after he passed away this year, I'm thinking Craig Goldy, the last guitarist for Dio, I think he did some amazing work for the band.
Then there are some very good guitar players who seem stuck in relatively obscure bands, like Emil Werstler with Daath and Daniel Mongrain with Martyr (hope I'm not offending anyone by calling these bands obscure, I know some of them have a pretty decent fanbase, but I still feel these two guitarists deserve more mainstream exposure).

Craig Goldy is definately one of the best if not, thee best in Dio band. Tracy G. was good too. When it comes to underrated, Id say Phil Campbell of Motorhead (and fellow Welshman) he is a brilliant guitarist and someone who, i think lacks recognition. Would be great to see him do a solo album too.

Yup, you two got it right there. there is a lot of brilliant guitarist that lack of recognition out there.
I was watching Marty Friedman live in tokyo DVD, he said he play with one of the best guitarist he ever play withwhich I cannot remember his name. I guess it not just me but many of us because he become the shadow of Marty Friedman.
