I always turn on my msn, aol, facebook and yahoo when I get online. I have family and friends in alot of other states and they all use different ways to get in contact with me and since we're not all in the same time zone I usually caught them for a few minutes online which is better then nothing.

When I'm online, I usually turn on Yahoo Messenger. Sometimes Yahoo Messenger is the only way I'm able to get in contact with my family in other states. Plus, I enjoy using the computer more than text messaging on a phone. It's definitely much easier to edit your response(s) before sending to others.

I use the latter two chatting software you mention here at the same time, but not always. It has been a while that I have not installed Yahoo Messenger. I don't like to spend much time chatting online only when I wish to. Acutally these chatting software offers us much convenience in contacting people we know. Enjoy yourself, youless.

hi youless for some reason I have come to dislike chatting rooms as so many like the diabetes chat rooms are not monitor so anyonce can say anytghing really ugly and dispicable and you can do no thing so I quit using them all together. sad as there were good aspects of being able to talk other diabetics.

I, myself, prefer emails and forums to messangers. when online I often either work on something or watch a movie. With emails and forums, I don't feel bad if I don't reply immediately but, for example, in twenty minutes or longer. With IMs... well they are called instant messangers for a reason. I always feel terrible when I"m unable to reply quickly, because in my mind it's as if I was standing next to the person and ignored them... So to answer your questions, I rarely turn on any IMs, unless I know the person I want to talk to is also online or if I need some immediate feedback from somebody. I use mostly Gtalk and Tlen, but I have AIM and yahoo as well, just in case.

As far as I am concerned, at the moment, I think I may be not so good at chatting with others. When I turn on my computer, I just usually surf on my website to something else, not load the chatting software now. Some times, I may want to live in a quiet place to enjoy my life. No chatting at all.

Hi Dear You
I agree with you, when ever I come online I open my messenger but only Yahoo messenger and it is only for one special person and really she does not come online, she has only special time to come online but I remain online for her, that she may come by mistake and I can have a chit chat with her
Have a nice day...:)

I never turn on any chat function when I am online, because usually I don't want to be disturbed and don't wish to start up a chat. However, if I know that a friend will be online and I feel in the mood, then I will turn it on. I like to surf the web and do work online without chatting, because it can often pose a distraction to me. However, I realize that for most people it's really convenient. :)

I am not interested in chatting software. When I am on line, I am on line for a reason. I do not want to be interrupted by chats. When I want to chat with someone, I prefer to talk to them on the telephone.

Hi youless,
When you are in mood of chatting it is ok to have people in touch but not while I am doing something serious and urgent stuff. Several times I have experienced people ringing the dong for a chat and I have to tell them frankly that I was not there for that now.
Usually I have three chat machines like skype, gtalk and yahoo. And I am not so much a chatting person. Ofcourse once in a while with the like minded one is welcomed.

Hi, youless!
I won't open my chatting softwares unless I want to use them. The continuous popping icons or windows disturb me a lot. And I can't do muti-task simultaneously well. I know there are persons who can working while chatting with two or three person. I don't have that skill.
I remember that you said you were against Tecent, right?
