Do you believe in any of the myths surrounding supermarket self checkouts?

I am amazed at the amount of misinformation out there, people make up stories about how they are supposed to be faster or how alcohol has to be approved before you move on to the next item and then they repeat these myths back to staff as if it was the shop which made them up.

I don't care what they say...unless they give me a discount to do all the "work" checking out and bagging require, I won't be using them. I already have to pay the high prices... I am not about to do all the "work" too.
And anyone that does use them is only putting people out of work and shame on them for taking someones job!

self scans create jobs; sainsbury's has gearing of over 50% so for every pound they save they are investing more than a pound in opening new stores with new work forces.
Plus there are loads of jobs in manufacturing and maintaining the machenes. Do you honestly think that quality of life has tended to decrease with technology?

I use the self check out if I do not have a ton of coupons. THe coupons are finicky when being scanned. If I have a large order then I will go and deal with a person. I have to agree that I have not heard any myths about them. At a place like walmart, when you have to wait in line and they do not call up more personnel to handle the extra people it makes sense to have the self check out. It makes it faster, and if you do not want to do the work, you can stand in line and have a person bag for you.
