Kids left in Day Care Center Vans....

Does this only happen in Milwaukee? I have never heard of it happening anywhere else. Many day care centers offer vans to come pick kids up. It's a convenience that parents appreciate, and usually pay a little extra for.
Every now and then, a story comes up about little kids being left in the vans. They are either infants, or kids who fell asleep on the way to the day care center, and the driver didn't notice them.
This has lead to hospitalization and deaths. There is no excuse for it, and the drivers should be (and often are) charged for their crimes.
Has this happened in your city?

Wow, how terrible! I haven't heard of kids being left in daycare vans where I live, but parents leaving their children in hot cars unfortunately happens quite a bit. They go into stores or go wherever they please while their young children, babies and toddlers and those unable to just leave the car, and they suffer in the heat. The have been a fair amount of cases in which these children die in the heat in the cars.
Florida gets quite hot and I can't imagine being a little kid stuck inside a car rapidly overheating in the sun. It's awful that this happens and parents and workers should really have some common sense. In the case of the drivers, they should ALWAYS check the vans to make sure everyone has gotten out. I mean, even bus drivers that shuttle older kids and people do this! Again, it's really awful.

Oh, I remember how hot the car got in Florida. You could burn your hands on the steering wheel if you weren't careful.
Yeah, I hate it when I see kids or pets shut in cars while the parent are in the store or somewhere. I'm sure none of those parents would stay in those hot cars very long.

Yes Ted it happens here in the Charlotte NC area. As a matter of fact it just happened this past week, a kindergardner was left on the bus all day, and was discovered when the driver went back to the bus for his afternoon run. The child was dehydrated, but safe. The driver was fired. It seems to happen more often with the elementary school buses here. The news said that it is a regulation that at the end of each run the driver is supposed to do a walk through on the bus, to check for just such an event. So here the drivers can not claim ignorance, when it is a part of their job duty. As far as I know there have been no deaths yet, but that is a strong possibility for this type negligence.

When I drove a bus, I had a child hide on my bus, but I found her before I left. On another occasion I had teaching staff leave a child under three on my bus. I discovered her because she squeaked the car seat. She had a speech delay. These were instances that did not end badly, but I have heard of them lots of places and sometimes I have heard of PARENTS forgetting their children in vehicles. They did not always end safely and happily. It does need to stop happening. There need to be check lists and people just plain need to pay attention.

Wow thats horrible! How can anyone go pick up someones child when they are supposed to take it into the day care center but instead forget about the kid they picked up. I mean wow seriously how could that happen. Even if your distracted thats like to big of a distraction to forget about. The day care centers around here are very small and they do not offer rides. I guess maybe after reading this maybe thats a good thing!

I don't think there are day care centers that do that here. That's awful though. They should be more responsible in handling kids. It's like borrowing something from someone. You take care of them cuz they're not yours.
