Midnight showing of movies.

Other than Harry Potter, I don't think I've ever heard of any others up here. Maybe years ago, some places might have had Monty Python movies late.
So have you ever been to any midnight movies? People were lining up at supper time for the midnight showing. We had two cinemas showing Harry Potter last night and each cinema has many theaters, not sure how many were devoted to HP.
It seems like it would be fun, but could get unruly and it's past my bedtime. I'm glad a book, actually a series of books, has taken the world and movie world by storm.
But my husband and I will wait until a weekday matinee. Wish they had waited until the weekend, lots of kids will be very sleepy or skip school today. But I'm glad our cinemas are making money. During this recession, someone needs to be making $.
So what do you think of midnight movies? If you're going to see it, when will you go?

Our Reel Theater here shows its more adult movies at midnight on Saturdays. This is our cheap movie theater and it really gives people alot options as far as times go. I think the younger people like this time slot. I don't like to be out by myself late at night. I think if it was one I really wanted to see and friends who went with me wanted to go at this time it would be okay.

We go to the weekly matinees, cheaper and if during the week, no school aged children (unless maybe a few home schooled).

There are a few films that they've done that for. Going back a few years (when we had proper cinemas and not the plastic multiplexes) they used to do a horror double bill starting at midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. I suppose there is no call for that in the age of the DVD but it was really popular at the time.

Nice to hear from you.
Maybe they had that here, too. Hard for me to know. I don't do horror. I used to love our old theater. They'd put the screens down and do actual theater, sometimes. They also had regular seating and a balcony. They're trying to refix it. Years later, still hasn't reopened.

It has been a LONG time since I went to a movie that late at night, especially to see the first showing of something. It has been so long I cannot remember even what movie I went and seen. Personally lately due to the cost of seeing a movie if there is really a movie I really want to see, I will usually wait until it comes out on DVD and then either Rent it from Red Box, or go buy it somewhere.

I think it would be fun to watch the crowd, if I was retired and didn't have to get up and go anywhere the next AM.

I have never been to a midnight movie but they did have that Harry Potter here at midnight too. They did the Twilight sequel here too. I let my girls see that one last Thanksgiving but not the midnight showing....work comes to early for me to be laying out at midnight watching movies. I have always wanted to go to one though.

I guess people wear costumes, quote likes from previous ones or the current book they're about to see and get a little wild. Must be something to watch the crowd. Maybe someday when I'm retired. . .. Thanks and take care.

Welcome to mylot!
Yes, the special effects are terrific for Harry Potter.
If I were younger, I think midnight movies might be fun, if I wasn't working the next day. Thank and take care.

It sounds like a lot of fun indeed! I personally have never been to a midnight showing of a movie. A couple of weeks ago my boyfriend and I went to the cinema with another friend of his and we considered going to a midnight showing, but we finally opted for going there in the evening instead, since we were all kinda tired from the whole day and we felt kinda lazy going out so late. Besides, I would've probably gotten kinda sleepy and would've had a hard time paying proper attention to the movie... and that's not something I want :P
Take care!

Yes, it would certainly take proper planning and in my case, an afternoon nap!
