Why the stars diminish?

Every year a new American idol is selected. Every year millions of people vote for them an go crazy about these so called 'idols'.
But no matter how much idols are loved by fans, most of the time it's only for just few months. Then we forget about them!
May be because they all get popular by singing other peoples' songs. When they start making their owns they are ignored.....

You're right. But I guess it all depends on how people manage their careers and it's hard to maintain their popularity since everyday a new singer is born. They must have an originality to survive show business.
