got myself a new laptop. so far so good but i have this... not really a problem but a sort of an enigma if i may call it. my laptop runs with an nvidia geforce 310m 1gb and i'm wondering why this intel hd graphics is also enabled.... so i have an option to run any programs with my nvidia or my intel which the default is my nvidia. i tried disabling it through my device manager and it crashed so i then went to the bios but i can't find anything about my graphics thing. can anyone help me with this? is this normal for an Asus laptop?

It's nVidia Optimus where the GeForce 310M and the onboard Intel graphics operate in parallel. When playing games or requiring GPU decoding of video streams, the nvidia side kicks in automatically. When running less graphics intensive applications, Optimus automatically switches over to the Intel side. It's normal.

I don't know what exactly is this intel hd grapchics but I suspect that this is something like "codec" and not part of a hardware or some driver.

it's the on-board graphics. it's not suppose to run along side the nvidia card but it is...

If so, I don't see the reason to close it. Laptop till don't need extra power for graphics will work with this onboard grapchics and will start Nvidia wen you need more power. Remembers me the SLI system in Desktop PC's Except if you want to close it for another reason.
